Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

Just installed C59-300/GS59-221 up front and C59-505/GS59-705 in the back. Loving the look and feel of the suspension.

regarding C59-677V coils

Just installed these rear coils on my 09 4runner.

I have approximately 100lbs of cargo in the rear now, in addition to:

rock sliders: 120lbs
skid plates: 100lbs
roof rack: 60lbs

measurements are as follows (approximate as I was on a slope facing up it)

Front:
D: 39 1/8
P: 39 1/4

Rear:
D: 40
P: 40 1/4

love these coils!! Thanks Mike, they gave me the lift back after I added weight, and the superflex just couldn't keep up. Plus they ride VERY VERY VERY nice!! I was worried they'd be too tall, but they're not. Just hope they can hold the weight of a rear bumper when I eventually get it, without sagging more than 1".

Check out my build thread in my signature for more details :)

4th gen front spring question

Hi Mike,

My current set up is 5100 on .85 perch with the toytec 112620 spring and 1/4” top plate spacer. Before I added all the weight on the front it set around 3” of lift. Now I think I’m settled somewhere around 2”s and I get a good bit of dive on braking. I would like to get that back to around 2.5” to 3” of lift and improve the ride. I have been considering some front springs from your company.

I have 150ish lb of winch/bumper, v8, skids, sliders on the vehicle and from what I’ve read the c59-314 spring would yield around 2” of lift. If I paired that with my toytec 1/4” spacer, I’m thinking it would come out to around 2.5”. Or would it be better to use the .85” on Billy’s? What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Zach

Ps, I’ve been searching for awhile and have come across some threads on this but haven’t really found enough evidence to make a decision.

Hey Zach,

I reckon you'd be better off with our 730LB rate coils with the V8 engine plus the extra weight you have. Those will take care of the nose dive, and also maintain the lift height.

You can run the C59-352 coils at the lowest setting for ~2.25" of lift, or if you go up to the first clip, you'd be closer to ~3" of lift.
OverlandTennessee is running the same coils on our MRR struts set to the taller setting, with a bumper, skids, sliders, etc, and he's been doing great with those coils.

Yes, you could run the C59-314 coils, but you may still end up with some nose diving upon braking.

Anybody with V8 running this combo?

Front:
C59-314 Coil
GS59-221 Shock

Rear
C59-327 Coil
GS59-637 Shock

Currently have the C59-302 up front and the aforementioned rear. Suspect this will level truck (using trim up front & daystar in back) and get back a lot of the lost lift from the lean. Truck has upgraded battery (G27), sliders, aluminum skids, and ARB 50qt in the rear.

Ordered these two weekends ago and they arrived way earlier than I expected. Only took like 2 days. Can't wait to get them on. 677Vs with no weight on the back for now.

I checked the photos I have and this is the closest to that setup that I have. He has the 325 rear coils.

The C59-314 coils are 10mm free height taller than the C59-302's, so it should give about 20mm (3/4") of lift over what you have now

@DobinsonsMike

If I go with the C59-448 up front are we encroaching on "bro rake" territory? At this point I'm feeling I should just go all in and get as close to 3" as possible, but not sure how that will play out with the 327 coils in back.

You can't run 448 coils on a V8, they don't have enough spring rate.

That's right, it shouldn't have been there under the V8 section, only the V6. I just removed it. 502LB rate is too soft on a V8

Thanks for the response Mike. Also, you've got some other conflicting/duplicate info in there that might turn away potential customers. Just sayin... As a potential repeat customer I want to make sure I am buying exactly what I need.

C59-314 - V8 - Stock front end load, 2.5" lift. 405/405mm, 17mm wire, 586LB
C59-314 - V8 - 100-220LBS heavy load front weight, 2" lift. 405/405mm,17mm wire, 586LB

The same coils can work in 2 different ways. With no weight and a V8, the C59-314 coils give 2.5" of lift. If you add weight to them, they will sit down to 2" of lift.

The same coils give different lifts and weight ratings on a V6, all based on the difference in weight.

Mike, I installed the 300's on the taller front shocks for 3" front, and 677's in the rear. I also added a toytec 1/4" spacer in the drivers front, and OME trim spacer in the drivers rear for the drivers lean. BUT. I still have drivers side lean! The same amount as before!

With my RTT and rack, and tools in the rear, I got exactly 3.75" lift all the way around. I expected to get over 3" front and rear compared to previous measurements, I definitely had 200K worth of sag on the original springs. Also, ride is amazing, when loaded down in the rear with camping gear its even better. Love the setup, handle and ride is everything I wanted. I think I'll end up going up one more spring rate front and rear in another year or so once I start doing armor and bumpers but for now its awesome.

Also, for anybody who's interested, I lose exactly 1 inch in the rear on both sides from a weekend's worth of camping gear.

Drivers side lean is just driving me crazy. I can't figure out why I would still have exactly 1/2 inch of lean, AFTER the spacers were installed. Any thoughts? I'm considering adding a 3/4" spacer on the drivers side front, and moving the toytec spacer over to the passenger side to try to correct. That seems excessive though. Would love any suggestions.

You're not alone. My springs have sagged like crazy in both the front and the rear. I'm going to add a Daystar 1.5" spacer in the driver rear to level it out. Pretty disappointed. Seems to be an acceptable fix here. Also going to go up to the 2.5" springs for the V8 and install a 1/4" spacer there as well.

Not sure if your reply was directed at me or not. If so, I don't think we're having the same issue. My dobinson springs have not sagged at all, they settled less than a quarter inch total. My spacers just haven't resolved my drivers side lean the way I hoped. My net lift received was 3.75 front, and rear between 3.75 and 4.75 rear. Previous OEM springs had 200K worth of sag. I currently sit at exactly 3.75 lifted front and rear, with a roof rack and RTT installed full time. Honestly, I wouldn't even consider this a dobinsons issue, just wanted to see if Mike had any insight or thoughts on it.

Sorry to hear you have not had good results from your springs though! As an aside, I would not suggest installing a 1.5" spacer only on one side. I seriously doubt you have 1.5" of drivers lean. And if you do, you might have some other issue with the installation of your front or rear springs that is causing that.

Hey Mike, I was wondering what springs to get? I have the 599’s and my truck is level but I want some rake to it. I like the way the 599’s ride and want to keep that same ride. I don’t have any extra weight in the back but do plan on a little sub box.
