Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

The C59-350 is a 730lb coil according to Mike... that's a hell of a beefy coil.

My buddy has OME 886 coils up front which is a 660lb coil and he's running a winch and ARB bumper. 730lb seems excessive for a CO bumper which is much lighter than a ARB.

Yeah, I was concerned about that as well but was told by a couple of people from Dobinsons that its a good rate for this application so went ahead with it. I like the company and I wanted to trust their expertiese so now I am thinking may be there is a break in period for coils or something like that, when they get a bit softer in the first few months or if adding a winch and a RTT would make a difference. I know the ride quality is subjective but at the moment its way too firm. Crikeymike what do you think? Should I wait till everything is installed or should I swap the springs right now not to waste time?

The feel of ride quality is all subjective to the person making the description. The coils would have been selected based on information given on the weight being added to the vehicle, and without it on there, it won't ride as it's supposed to.

Your first description about how it's driving makes me think you don't have a good wheel alignment, and depending how high it is, you might need to add UCA's to dial in the alignment properly. Any shaking or steering issues are related to tires and wheel alignment generally.

What is your front hub to fender measurement?

Thats understandable, question was inquiring if adding a 60lbs winch and a rtt would change a feel of a 730lbs coil?

The aftermarket UCAs (Icon) are there for that purpose. The alignment seems to be okay according to the guys who did it.

Hub to fender measurements are 24"

That puts you at 4 to 4.5" of front lift. Stock is 19.5" to 20" usually. That must have been measured right after installation because that's very high. It should be 23" with all the weight on the truck and settled.

It's leverage, the added weight hanging over the front has an effect on the suspension.

No wonder if feels terrible then. I measured it 10 mins ago (with a bumper, but no winch and no rtt yet), it has been a month since its installed, but it was parked for all that time and wasnt driven.

Use of the coils is what has them settle. Sitting there hasn't broken them in at all

How much are they expected to settle? If my math is correct when matched with 220 it is supposed to be around 2.5 of lift so 22.5 hub to fender so they should loose whole 2".

I appreciate you time and patience with answering me btw, I have been working on this runner for a while and wanted it to be ready for spring.

Got the lift installed today! Mike, thank you so much!

I went with what Mike suggested and it rides great! So much better than the bilstein 4600's that came off of it.

Cracked roads, frost heaves, potholes, irregularities and washboards have gone from jarring to a smooth bumpiness. The highway ride is also excellent. Along with the JBA UCA's I went with it feels incredibly planted.

Specs are as follows.
GC59-300
GS59-221
GC59-505
GS59-705

Also are the JBA UCA's

It should be 22.5" to 23" approximately once fully weighted and settled.

Settling takes at least 500 miles usually.

Hello all! I am needing some help. The woman that is helping me pick my parts for my 06 V6 4Runner is suggesting I go with these part numbers for my Dobinson suspension. (which I already ordered with slightly different specs from their company)

C59-302
CG59-220
C59-325
GS59-705

I want a 3" lift around 2" in the back, I don't plan on adding any bumpers or weight that would be constant because it's my daily driver. Is this configuration going to work for what I want? I suggested going with the c59-300 and the CG59-220 instead but she said it typically won't get the 3" lift. I was just a tad worried about it being too high with the configuration she suggested? I just worry about damage to my vehicle and effects on handling. Although right now the handling is pretty bad because my suspension is completely shot. lol I would like to go with 285/70R17 Falken Wildpeak at3w for my tires once the lift is on. My wheels are Methods, 8.5" wide with a 0 offset. We are installing SPC UCAs with the lift and a diff drop as well. So I just worry that a 2.5" lift won't be enough for tire clearance, and I worry about a 3.5" being too much for my vehicle?

Looks good man, thanks for the pics. Almost looks taller in the front than other's who have posted pics with the 300's.

Any chance you could take a picture of one of the CV axles from the front? I'm curious how the CV angle compares to my suspension...this gives me a way to gauge how much lift this setup will give.

Also, what tire size are you running?

You can definitely choose whatever you'd like. Let me break it down for you so you can see the options.

C59-302 coils give 2.5" lift on a stock weight V6

GS59-220 add 1" of lift due to their taller coil seat.

That combo of C59-302 and GS59-220 give between 3.25" and 3.5" of front lift. BUT on older vehicles, some are more sagged out than others, so people will report different lift heights.

C59-300 coils give 1.75" to 2" lift on a stock weight V6

So if you want to only be at the 2.75" to 3" lift on the front, you can use C59-300 with GS59-220.

A lot have been buying the 302/220 combo since they will be adding a hidden winch or light bumper, or both, at some point in the future and they can run this combo with UCA's and still get it aligned, and also will be no lower than 3" front lift when they add extra weight.

I've seen people with 2.5" front lift and get tires to fit, but there's always a chance of trimming needed, and the alignment tech needs to move the tires forward as far as possible to clear the body mount in the rear of the front fender.

And you'll get 2" in the rear with what you listed.

Hope this helps.

Thank you my man!

You know, I thought the same thing about the way it sits, but I'm not disapointed with it in any way at all. I am however kicking myself for not measuring before the install though.
I'm currently running stock size 265/65/17 Toyo Open country AT/2's. They look a little small now IMO, but I'm not going to change them for a while as the tires only have 14k miles on them. Eventually I will go up to either 265/70 or 275/70.

I'll post CV axle pics either later today or tomorrow, but the angles look just fine to me.

I installed the Dobinsons 2.5 lift on my 07 V8 about a year ago. I have since been chasing down a clunk on front passenger side. I have since replaced lower control arm, sway bar bushings, endlinks, sway bar relocator( thought it may have been hitting coil). Also JBA UCA. Clunk still present only over washboard type bumps and speed humps. Trucks rides and handles better than new. I'm starting to wonder if it's the shock making the noise. Any thoughts?

Front Springs:
C59-314 - V8 - Stock front end load, 2.5" lift. 405/405mm, 17mm wire, 586LB

Rear Springs:
C59-505 - Stock rear end load, 1.5" lift. , 220lbs.

Front Strut Options:
GS59-221 - Twin Tube, fixed mount (not adjustable), suits 0-2.5" lift

Rear Shock Options:
GS59-705 - Twin Tube, suits 0-2.5" lift, softer valving for empty rear ends.

Front Optional Install Parts ($35.00):
PS59-4030 - 5mm Driver's side strut spacer (to correct lean)

Coil Spring Color:
Black

Rear Optional Install Parts ($25.00):
PS59-4023 - 10mm Driver's side coil spacer (to correct lean)

Could check the dust boot/cover to make sure it didn't come loose. Put car in the air so the strut is at full extension and see if the boot moves. If it does, either the top mount isn't tightened down all the way, or maybe the boot got a bit sideways during assembly. A guy yesterday posted that exact issue in his own thread.

The shock can't really make a clunk. It would have to be blown and have no oil to do that so you would see oil everywhere.

I'll check that. It never crossed my mind because its such a solid clunk. Do you happen to have a link to that thread.

It is not loose. I've checked and double checked. That's why I'm wondering if its shock related I've covered the rest I think.
That's what happens when strut bushings are loose and it makes a clunk when the strut shaft hits the top mount due to excessive movement.
