Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

Looks good man, thanks for the pics. Almost looks taller in the front than other's who have posted pics with the 300's.

Any chance you could take a picture of one of the CV axles from the front? I'm curious how the CV angle compares to my suspension...this gives me a way to gauge how much lift this setup will give.

Also, what tire size are you running?

Hey, sorry for the delay been sick for the past couple of days. Here are the CV angles. They look dead nuts straight.

Huge thank you to Crikeymike for prompt email responses to my questions and the amazingly fast shipping. Put my order in Tuesday and shipped the same day, had it in hand Friday!!

Sorry for rolling back a few pages on this...

IllustratedMan, can you comment on your rake after the install? I'm hoping to lose some of the factory rake without sagging under normal camping weight, and I'd like to run the 302s up front.

Did you ever think about running the 505s in the rear?

Any chance of getting a picture straight on from the side?

Thanks!

That's what happens when strut bushings are loose and it makes a clunk when the strut shaft hits the top mount due to excessive movement.

Thanks you we're right after all. With some help from a cheater bar I got 4 more full turns on that nut. Clunk is finally gone.

The top nut gets bottomed out on the threads of the strut, and many people don't get that tightened all the way down.

FYI, the photos I posted of the strut shaft cut into from wear was after 9 months of regular driving with loose top bushings.

Awesome, this is exactly what I was looking for. Looks like the CV's are just barely over "level". I think the 300's will give a slight lift over my current suspension if that's the case.

Thanks for the pics.

Is that something I should be concerned about. I have no clue what mine look like underneath. I really dont want to have to remove to check.

There's no way to fix it, so as long as it's right now and tightened properly, it should be fine

I’ll get some pictures tomorrow. I did consider the
505 but went this route to keep a little rake so it hopefully doesn’t squat with some weight in the back. To my eye I really don’t notice the rake at all even unloaded, but honestly the factory rake didn’t me bother either. Havent had the chance to see how it handles with anything loaded in the back but am real happy with how it rides unloaded.

Out of curiosity, is this true for 5100s as well or just your setup?
Every strut no matter what the brand can't be loose. It's such a common problem, that's why I figured out what his clunking was without even seeing it. I've even seen people's install videos where they don't mention anything about how far to tighten down the top nut, front or rear, and if left loose, it can allow for movement. "Loose" is a relative term also because if you didn't get the spring properly compressed during the strut assembly, you'll get pressure fighting you from tightening it down and you'll think it's tight, but it might not be, like the previous posts.

Got it. Mind gut-checking my install? Been on the truck for 6 months.

Looks fine. You can tell one is tighter than the other if it's on level ground, or one side is flexing a bit more than the other. The washer meets the outside of the bushing and mushrooms it out. It's when the bushing is more "not squished and bulging" that it needs to be more tight.

@IllusratedMan:

Thanks, that pretty much made up my mind. Looking at swerks' rig on page 34/35 had me second guessing, as it looked really high in the rear.

Was yours that high right after install? Did you see much settling? Any driver's side lean?

Out of curiosity, what size tires are you running?

I’ve only got about 100 miles on it so expect there will be some settling still. Yeah the driver side rear is about .5 inch lower, you can actually kinds of see it in the photos. I’ll be putting a spacer in to correct.

It looks like I haven't made it clear to enough people about the coil and strut color options we have, so I've got this photo now in post #1 so that hopefully people will see the options they have with Dobinsons.
