Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

Nice catch! Yes, I ended up going up to the second notch up front. I had intended on going longer springs up front but, got a good deal on some springs in the for sale section.

My guy that installed the shocks actually didn't realize that I had lifted springs and set them at the highest setting originally. The springs were touching the upc's to start with. I had asked him to set them at 0 but called and asked to put them up one notch. Glad I did.

So ultimatlyey with the 300 spring and second notch on the bil’s what does that turn out to be loft wise?

Hey @%1;

I’m looking into refreshing my 08 V8 4WD xreas suspension (~108k) and hoping to take advantage of the current sale!

I’ve read over pretty much this entire thread but still a bit unsure of the direction I want to go.

I want to keep it <3” (avoiding diff drop and UCA for now). I plan on running 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks AT3W on 5th gen TRD/trail edition 7 spoke 17” x 7.5” wheels. Very little off-roading and occasionally towing with no plans for any extra weight.

Originally looked into a 2 or 2.5”/ 1.5” which should keep the factory rake (1-1.5”?) and allow for extra cargo weight or minor towing and get rid of any potential rubbing.

Does this configuration get me this? Do you have any pictures of this setup? What do you recommend?

Front:
314 coils
221 struts

Rear:
505 coils
705 shocks

I do apologize as this would be my first experience with any kind of lift (I’ve done a few coilover setups on my past VW/audis but never a lift!)

Thank you for your time!

Hey bud,

I know I've sold that combo heaps of times, but I don't have any photos of that exact setup saved for some reason. It would look just like the first few on this page, but 1/2" taller up front.
Gallery - Toyota 4th Gen 4Runner (2003-2009) | Exit Offroad

Yes, that combo of 2.5" front and 1.5" rear would work out great, leaves ~1" of rake, which is 1" less than factory (factory rake is 2"). The first photos on that page show 2" front and 1.5" rear, leaving 1.5" of rake, which still looks good, and works well for having extra capacity to add more weight without squatting to lower than level. 2" front on a V8 uses the C59-302 coils.

Either way, it's going to be huge change and improvement to how your truck rides now.

Being a 4th Gen, I recommend adding a front and rear spacer on the driver's side to correct/prevent a lean once it's all installed and settled.

I'm sure you've seen it, but the kit builder page I have is here with every possible option: Dobinsons 1" to 3.5" Lift Kit for Toyota 4Runner 4x4 2003-2009

It's a 2:1 lift ratio, and from memory I think the clip heights are in 1/4" increments, so going from the bottom up would add 1/2" of lift (1/4" x 2).

C59-300's lift 2" on a stock V6 and 1.5" on a stock V8.

Thanks for all your help Mike. I finally got the setup installed and it came out awesome.

Height as measured from the center of the wheel straight up to the fender.
Stock
FL: (did not measure)
FR: 18.5"
RL: (did not measure)
RR: 21.5"

Dobinsons
FL: 21.5"
FR: 21.5"
RL: 24.25"
RR: 23.75"

Just installed 265/70/17 BFG KO2 tires.

Thanks again Mike@Dobinsons.

Does anyone know the STOCK height “off the showroom floor” measurements hub to fender?

What coils did you decided on? Looks eppic

Side note...
Given the age and milage of these trucks everyone is seeing different increases in lift. I dont really understand the reasoning for posting pre lift measurements. It indicates a fictional lift height
Confuses the actual gain of the coil spring

You're right, everyone varies.

Stock heights are
19.5-20" front
21.5-22" rear

A 2" front lift sets the hub to fender at 22", and a 2" rear lift would be 24", give or take a little.

I've got on order the IMS shocks with C59-352 front and C59-677v coils. I will be running a front bumper and winch but keep the rear bumper stock for now.

Any pics of this setup so I know what to expect?

Depends what height you set the front to, but something like this.

Thanks for posting that! I was planning on setting the coils for a 3" lift but I thought with the added weight up front it would bring it down a little maybe. Maybe not. Haha. At least it's adjustable to get it where I want it!

Thats a key ingredient to netting a visual of how to size lift to a tire combo.

Higher the lift bigger the tire. Keeping the balance

Good way to do this also is just to throw a jack under the truck. Jack it up to your desired height with rubber and take a measurement.

Then “Doc Mike” will tune you up!!

Il emailing you in the next day or so to finalize my order
Tom

How do you feel the 701s run on an empty truck vs the 705s loaded with 200lbs of extra gear? Looking to get my 4Runner be comfortable on long dirt roads and the weight on my truck varies. Are the 705s stuffer than stock?

If the truck is empty almost all of the time, use the 705s for the most comfortable ride.

If you have 200lbs always, use the 701s.

The 705s are a different feel than stock, but I wouldn't say stiffer. Your stock shocks are also at least 12 years old so they are most definitely worn out and super soft I'd bet.

I'm sure there are, but they most likely did some trimming to get them to fit up front

Hey, I know you said it would be December for certain springs to be shipped out, around what time of the month. I'm too excited to get them!!! FYI, the springs I'm referring to is the 677 and 314 in red.

Thanks!

Any Rubbing issues?

Just want to shout out to Mike for helping with my lift setup back in January. Six months on, many trips later, and the suspensions have been fantastic on and off road. Extremely glad I went with Dobinsons.

Front Coils: C59-300
Front Struts: GS59-221
Rear Coils: C59-325
Rear Shocks: GS59-705

Hey man, great setup! Looking to do something similar, I was wondering if you had any rubbing issues with the increased offset of the TRD wheels with those Tires?

Dobinsons installed! well, partially...

352's late January
677V's late February

Sorry for the long post:

Okay, so I ordered the IMS system for an 07 v8 4WD 4runner (100k miles) and got it yesterday and decided to install it the same day because I'm impatient. I got the 314's with the 226mm seat height. for the rear, I ended up with the 675v instead of the 677v with long-travel shocks, I did this due to the longer wait and also because I thought it may have been too tall since I only cary about 100 lbs in the rear right now with a regular spare. The install took some time as apparently, I'm a little rusty.. All is well, drives good, but the front is definitely a little stiff (not too stiff though) since I don't have my bumper/winch combo installed yet.

Here's my dilemma, I know it needs to settle but I got almost 6" of lift in the front and about 3" in the rear which means it's sitting nose-high by about an inch or so (looks more than an inch). How much should I expect the front to settle? Should I get the 677v's even if it does settle + the bumper/winch for a proper rake? I was hoping for at least an inch rake at a minimum so I have room for the extra camping and traveling gear, plus I tow a boat from time to time and wanted it to be as level as possible when I do.

I haven't installed the diff drop yet, or the UCA's since they won't be in until a little later. I'm wondering what I should do. extra weight/mod list below:

Future (ordered but not yet shipped)
Demello aluminum flat top bumper,
SmittybuiltBuilt 10k winch (synthetic line)
RSG angled sliders with kick out

Considering hitch mounted full-size spare (285/70r17's). This depends on if I can fit it underneath the way I want, which I doubt because of the tow package hitch. no rear bumper in the future at this time due to cost.

Also considering full budbuilt skids (steel) in the future

Let me know what you think, I don't think I'm going to install the 285/70r17's I have in the garage until I get the UCA's installed and everything aligned. until then I'm running on bald highway tires 265/65r17's :(
