Does anyone have the JBL OEM factory NAV system in their runner?

Hi gents,

I just bought an 08 runner Limited... It came with the JBL system..now I am looking at upgrading the 2din unit. Really I want NAV, sat radio, GOOD bluetooth and ideally a hardrive of sorts.. However I am conflicted.. I am not sure if I want to drop $1500+ on a pioneer system..mostly because I dont like the idea of it getting jacked.

Are there any nice systems with removeable faces?

and has anyone put in this OEM system....?? Any feedback??

Can't help you much other than to say that in all my research for a nav unit (non-JBL) I have found only one double-din unit with detacheable faceplate -- the JVC KW-NX7000

Otherwise the closest thing is the Eclipse AVN2210, which has a detachable TomTom... the same as in the UrbanRunner... but apparently it's not a great system (compared to similarly priced Pioneer or Kenwoods at least) and you have to make do with a 3.5" screen and no text-to-speech.

The JVC unit gets rave reviews but, alas, has no built-in BT (just an optional add-on) and still needs an interface for your steering wheel controls to work, all of which push it to well over a grand.

I was looking at the kenwood..looks really nice. Does anyone here have one? How well does the BT work when installed?

And does it fit just right into the 2din? does it stick out and look poor?

Do you have to take the wheel apart for the wheel functions to mate up or is it all behind the deck?

no idea how the Kenwood looks looks but with all aftermarket units you have to buy a steering wheel control interface to hook up your steering controls to the deck. They cost about $100 and can be a bit tricky to install and program.

Howdy - welcome to the forum and congrats on buying a 4Runner.

A lot of us on here (including myself) have various models of Kenwoods. I think you'll get a lot of your questions answered by using the search function.

There are a lot of topics on here about adding aftermarket navs (various brands) as well as OEM navs.

hey there,

i recently bought an 08 urban runner. i was going to get a limited because it has a nav but the toyota dealership also offered an upgraded nav package for the 4runner.

i hate the urban runners tomtom gps, so i upgraded to get the pioneer avic-z3 with bluetooth and backup camera addons as well.

i didn't get xm cuz i dont really listen to the radio. but with xm u can get live traffic information as well.

the avic has a 30gig hard drive as well, but i believe 20gigs is consumed by the pioneer software.

i love the avic-z3. i dont have any pictures but i can take some if u guys need.

a lot of people like the kenwood double din units as well but i've never seen or used one.

Nav

You can get the factory Nav from OEMvalue.com . I've considered doing the same thing, but beware, the harnesses on the Urban's are different than the stock units (According to the dude at Circuit City). $1500 or so will buy you a factory unit that fits in your truck.
