Living in NW PA there is a Country Fair every two blocks. They sell CITGO gas. I am wondering if the quality of gas varies from different stations, i.e. Shell, Chevron, etc. Could one possibly provide better MPG?
Does it make a difference where you buy your gas?

Well, your area might be different than mine (VA); but I see it this way. We have about fifty different brands of gasoline in our market (BP, Shell, Citgo, East Coast, Exxon, Valero, Wawa, Sheetz, Crown, etc., etc., etc., etc.) -- even more if you count the mom & pop operations.
There are only three or four 'tank farms' where the petroleum tanker trailers are loaded (at the end of the huge pipelines coming from the refineries), and then they make truck deliveries to the underground tanks (both diesel and gasoline) at each retailer/station.
It stands to reason that much of the same gasoline is going to more than a few different outlets. I have also seen the same tank truck going to two stations with completely different brand names. With government regulations so stringent regarding gasoline, I just can't see how there would be much of a difference in one place with another. In my opinion, the may put additives in at a particular station (Chevron's 'Techron' or BP's 'Invigorate') that might not be added to the fuel somewhere else......but I contend that it still is the same fuel.
BTW, I am a trucker and we get our company's diesel fuel from one of those "unmanned" stations where you must use a corporate/fleet credit card. I have seen the tanker truck delivering diesel fuel there and he always pours in a ten-gallon anti-gel additive to the underground tanks during colder weather. I suppose it is a selling point to fleet customers, but gelled fuel is almost never a problem for us during the winter.
Then again, we use about $80,000 of diesel every month, so I suppose they do want to keep our company happy.

P.S. EPA rules require my county to use RFG (reformulated gasoline), but the neighboring county does not. That is why there may be a 3 to 5 cent difference in price if you cross the county line. Summer blend fuels are here now, which also pushes up the price. $3.29 is now our going rate for unleaded, and diesel is just under four bucks!!
