Does my wheel bearing need to be replaced? (video)

Posted on here a few days ago about my situation. Replaced my LBJ's about a month ago and shortly after I started hearing a strange girding noise, that has slowly become more intense. Took it to a shop and the mechanic took it for a spin around the block, and said it was most likely a wheel bearing going bad. So before I go buy a new bearing, I wanted to see what you guys thought. Definitely sounds to me that the dust shield is rubbing the rotor... I did ball joints in mine ol lady's awhile back, got it all together and had this, took the rotor back off and pounded it out until the rotor no longer touched.

Second that, pound that dust shield out. To check your wheel bearing jack the truck grab tire at 12 and 6 clock positions and try to move it. If there's some play it's wheel bearing then
 
Thanks for the tips guys. There wasn't any play when I rocked the tire. But, my dust shield doesn't appear to be touching anything. If the dust shield were bent and touching something, wouldn't the grinding noise be non stop? I only hear it like once every rotation, if that makes sense
 
My dust shields would sometimes only touch when turning. You can literally grab them and pull them towards the center of the truck.
 
Are all the pistons in the calipers functioning correctly. Those look like stock calipers. Might have one of them stuck a bit not allowing the pads to fully release from the rotor. I agree with everyone else on the dust shield.
 
Love the search functions on this site!! So it is the dust shield? Mine is doing the exact same. I took the brake pads out, first the outside one. It still made the noise, then I took the inside out. No more noise. I was sure it was the rotor and the brake pads. So I sprayed a ton of brake cleaner on there. I will go pound out the dust shields now. Can you do this with the rotor and wheel on?

I know that [MENTION=75483]Millerad1651[/MENTION] didn't believe it was his dust shield, but that's because he couldn't duplicate the noise when he jacked it up to inspect, but it WAS the dust shield.
 
well I was able to pry it away just a little bit. But I am at work right now. I will take the wheel off later tonight and see if I am good to go.
 
Well back to update you folks. It is not my dust shield. It is my brake pad scraping against the rotor. Do you recommend trying new brake pads? Or resurface the rotor? Sometimes you hear it loud and clear other times not so much.

I had this exact issue and a few shops said it was my wheel bearing. I brought it to a 3rd shop and they noticed on the inside of the 13WL caliper, that a little of the dust shield was contacting the rotor.

I brought it home, yanked it all apart and dremeled that piece out. Never a sound since.

It sounded exactly like the OPs video.

Weird, because the springs should be holding the pad off the rotor. Perhaps you have them installed wrong?

Also, how did you verify it wasn't the shield? You can try lining the shield edges with something, white-out or something, sharpie, then see after a drive around town/hwy if any of it is worn off. Pretty sure [MENTION=75483]Millerad1651[/MENTION] was convinced it was his pads, too. It was the shield.
 
Well I beat the hell out of that shield. That is sort of my verification. Also when I take both brake pads out, the noise stops.

So I guess I have not actual verification. I pryed on that shield and even coated in brake cleaner, it still made the noise.

just watched the above videos, I would also say its the dust shield.
ive heard that sound many times.

you can sometimes look down in behind the rotor and see where its touching.
