Maybe it wasn't while they've owned it, but that's a much damn bigger thing to need than brakes, batteries and oil changes.

The big red flag to me is the new engine after 90K miles. No 4Runner should need a new engine until about 500K - give or take a few hundred thousand. Also, as much as I like 4Runners, no 2001 is worth 10K+ no matter the condition.

Mine went at 144,000 miles & I saw a 2000 Limited, Silver/Grey with 50,000 miles (showroom condition) for $11,000. It was worth it.

No way! Mine went at 149k, the pins holding the piston to the cam shaft just fell apart. Crazy, it was meticulously maintained and every mechanic we took it to to quote a new engine said it was super clean inside and it shouldn't have happened.

Not a stock one, anyway. I've seen some built ones for sale at that price that would be a great deal.

They've changed the ad to a 2000 4runner and removed some of the hoaky lines. This is the reality of the Vancouver marketplace (overpriced overstated 4runners)

My head gasket failed on the highway @ 70mph. I pulled right over, had it towed home. My mechanic put on a new head & it still wasn't running right. The engine bearings overheated & warped so I had to rebuild the bottom of the motor too. I'm the original owner & performed all of the scheduled maintenence. It must have been a faulty gasket. It ran like a champ for the 1st 144,000 miles. I took it everywhere.
