Dogs in my 2013, all over, not just the way back

I have three dogs and they usually have free reign in my car.. but they have only been in my new 4runner once. I feel like the material on the center console and the doors (just below the windows where they will be propped up window surfing) is not very strong. I can see it getting torn easily, but I am having a hard time keeping my dogs out of my car.

Most setups I've seen on here just have a cage in the way back, and the dogs are confined to that area. I usually put the back seats down and turn the whole back into a giant dog bed. Has anyone done this in their new 4runner, and had much damage done? Is there anything I can put over that soft leathery material to help keep it from getting destroyed?

Anyone with experience with a dog pack in their new 4runner would help, I just want to know what I'm in for as far as damage goes, and what I can prevent. My main concern is that soft leather that is all over the interior.

I taught my dog to behave and either lie down and rest or sit at a window without putting paws on side trim. With that said I throw a blanket over the back seat and she stays in that area.

i keep the back seats down 99.9% of the time, making it for all and intents and purposes a 4WD dog kennel with seating for 2 humans.

i keep a heavy, black moving blanket spread out over the entire cargo area with a black fabric Canine Cover protecting the folded-up seat bottoms. this combo catches/contains most of the dog dreck. my interior isn't scratched too badly. there are a few lasting impressions from dog nails on my center console lid, but i don't keep it super clean and pretty much go limp to this stuff.

thanks for the replies... my wife has a subaru and the center console has a million little dimples in it, so I guess I would just have to cover that... does the same material under the window get dimples in it as well? or are the dogs not able to put as much force onto the window panel from an angle? My cars are always in dog kennel mode, so I will probably just throw a few blankets down, I am just worried about those side panels... its so soft.. supple.

I wish I could teach my dogs to lay down and relax in the car.. when they hear the keys jingle they switch into savage beast mode, and I can't take window surfing from them.. the joy in their face is so obvious in my rearview

You're correct. I've got a puncture in the top of my center console from a dog nail. He stays in the back while I'm driving, but if I get out to put gas in or run into a store he stands with his rear paws on the back seat and his front ones on the console. One puncture in two years isn't bad though I guess.

Need pics of the GSD. Canvas Back and moving blankets before that worked great. Haven't had the console issue yet, but our 95 lb GSD loves to get his paws up there from time to time.

I flip the seat cushions forward on the back seats of my TE, which creates a nice 'well' for my two dogs. They don't seem to want to climb on the sides and it isn't easy for them to get paws between the front seats. I also put some blankets down to protect the floor. Mind you, my old girl is now over 17 so she isn't rambunctious like she used to be. The younger one is way calmer than having him on the seats or in the back, tho.

I have a 105lb Golden and a 90lb chocolate lab and I like sandcrawler above keep the back seats down when the dogs are in there along with a heavy moving blanket and big beach towels, mind you my dogs are pretty mellow anyway and the only thing that pisses me of is when my lab puts her head out the window, now while it looks funny as hell I hate it when I stop and see long drool marks all down the side of my truck.

+1 for the moving blankets. I have 3 or 4 in my truck at all times. They DO NOT contain all the dog hair. I'm vacuuming up a crapload right now. I recommend a good brush attachment on the shop vac.

Teach your dog to sit on the console! Here's my Setter setting his ass on the console of my previous 05' runner. (he learned it on his own) Weird dog has never stuck his head out of the window, go figure. He tries, but can't get his ass up on the 2013.

This would be setting up for full front seat fumigation courtesy of my 85lb lab. Suppose thats where the rear window kicks in for quick exhaust, but i think we all know how those clouds may stick and linger.
