dome lights, and center lights not working

Hey my dome lights are not working, just bought a 4 runner and whoever put in the stereo jimy rigged it and i think it messed up the wiring i have no idea where to even start to look for the issue. also seems that everytime i try to put in a stereo it blows the fuses any advise on what to do?

I have the stock stereo but my some light doesn't work either. If I remember right I'm not even getting any voltage to it

You can start by telling us what year-model.
A problem well-stated is a problem half-solved.
If you plan to work on your own vehicle, you need to find schematic
AND a digital multi-meter. Next to our senses, the DMM is the most important electrical diagnostic tool.

You need to tell us which fuse blows. A problem well-stated is a problem half-solved.
You need a digital multi-meter so you can use it to find the short, unless you have an unlimited supply of fuses to blow aech time you try something.

Then, we'll go from there.
