Thanks for all the great and helpful replies everyone. If anyone does have a Trail edition and is experiencing a similar issue with these caps please let me know, or post some pics. I ordinarily would not worry too much about this, and would plastidip them black, however this is a lease, and I don't want to get dinged $400 to replace damaged caps when I return the vehicle in two years. Thanks for sharing all your opinions and advice.

this is why i hate things when they are new and love them when they are old and broken in. The pitted, worn out wheels on my '98 allow me to enjoy that truck more than my '14 with its pristine and perfect wheels

These problems are because our wheels are made in China now for cheapness....

It's assembeled in Japan, Toyota sources parts from all over the planet, just like everyone else. FWIW, China is perfectly capable of producing excellent products, it just depends on what is SPEC'd, oversight, and QC. Ironically, a few decades ago, Japan was known for producing low quality, knock-off, junk.

During tire installation they had to remove and reinstall those, and they typically aren't terribly gentle with putting the center caps back on. That is almost certainly when it happened.

All I can confirm is that the 2013 SR5 wheels are made in China, however I am sure the rest are as well.

I had my trail at the dealer on a couple of days ago for the 5k maintenance. It was pouring rain when I got it home but the next day I got out my torque wrench to check the lugs and noticed they did this to my wheels during the tire rotation.


This dent is really noticeable.

This one is hard to see from the picture

They ran it through their car wash, but I doubt that is what caused the damage.

In any event, they are going to fix the damage.

Even with a lease they won't care. Pretty much any quarter size dent or less they don't even fuss about.

Yes, the metal feels flimsy. S happens, dont think its the end of the world. Door dings would piss me off more. Wheels are bound to get effed up.

Sorry to revive this thread. However I recently showed the Dealer that I purchased my TEP from and they looked at me like I was crazy. So I fixed it myself. I think they look better this way.

The dealer replaced mine. They ordered 4 new ones, one came in with a hugh crease on the aluminum trim ring, so the ordered another one also.

When the service manager showed me the ones they took off the truck I notice how flimsy it is. I think it is going to be hard to keep from denting them in the future without some modification. I might take the trim ring off ahd see if I can fill the back with epoxy to make it more sturdy.
