There are no Toyota Dealers in Minneapolis? this seems very, very odd

Oh, there's multiple Toyota dealers here. I bought my Runner down in Illinois because it was almost 4k cheaper than the one in Minneapolis. Would a dealership here fix it for me under warranty even if I didn't buy it from them?

Never taken either of my Runners to the local dealer here because I don't particularly like the way they do business.

So the answer is emphatically YES! this I am sure of, I mean think about it if you moved from Florida to Oregon and needed Toyota warranty work do you think the dealership in Oregon is going to say, well you didn't buy from us so pound sand? I sure hope not! I have already verified even the "Toyota care" free oil changes etc. can be done at ANY Toyota dealership, even if you bought somewhere else.

Now, on to what I don't know, the door guard specifically is a dealer installed option, not a factory installed option. so if the part is defective logic tells me they should cover it (maybe) however if the dealership installed it wrong, and they aren't the dealership that installed it they may be disinclined to perform the repair under warranty. further are dealer installed options covered under the umbrella of the factory warranty? this is another thing I simply don't know.

Dealer is 650 miles away. I rented a car and drove down to pick mine up. :redbrick: I could take it in locally here but I'm sure I'd be paying for it.

I have them on my 2018 TRD ORP too. I like them, being color matched they are almost unnoticeable.
If you are hesitant to go to a dealer, try heating the offending edge guard with a hair dryer then push it back into place and let it cool there before removing pressure. I'm not sure how compliant this plastic is, or if it will deform worse than what you have now. But it may be worth a try.

I'll give an update once I know more...especially if it helps others in the future. I've got a lot of business in NH and will be moving that way soon. Always looking for new people to go wheel with!

I might need a guard for my color matched edge guard. I wonder if Toyota dealers will start installing edge-guard guards for the color matched edge guards that they are currently installing?

Hello. I am looking to purchase a 2018 4Runner SR5 in Red. The only one I have found somewhat local is coming in next week but shows the door edge guards. The are supposedly put on at the port.

Has anyone removed them without any damage to the paint? Just not something I would want on it.

I asked a dealer exactly that when I was buying a new 4R 10 days ago. They were quite firm that trying to remove them could damage the paint.

So if you don't want them, find a truck w/o them. That's what I did.

Door Edge Gaurds on Rear Doors

Are the door edge gaurds on the rear doors too? When I look up the part numbers I'm seeing part#PT936-35110-10 for $40, however, I note the quantity is 2.

No different than removing emblems. A little goo-gone for the left over adhesive.

My 2018 4Runner came with clear door edge guards, but they are more of a paint protectant film like a clear bra. Unfortunately, the wind caused my door to swing open and hit the shopping cart return bin beside me. This damaged the door edge film and left a small ding but the paint still appears to be intact.

After I have the ding removed, I have two options, either replace the clear door edge guard with something like XPEL paint protectant film or purchase color matching door edge guards from Toyota.

If I go with the color matched door edge guards from Toyota it may protect the door better than the film, possibly even distributing the impact better and reducing the amount or severity of any new dings. However, I haven't seen these in person, so I am not sure how they look. Also, if I installed and then decided to removed them years later, I assume it would be noticeable due to fading.

Does anyone have pictures of the color matched Toyota door edge guards?

They are metal and take a pair of wrapped pliers and squeeze it back together then re-install

I bought adhesive backed plastic color matched ones from Ebay. I do not like the Toyota metal ones because they scratch the paint during install and removal.

I'd go back with the clear edge guard, since I don't like the look of the the thicker color matched one. $15 on Amazon for 3M edge guard, and you would have enough enough left over for the other 3 doors.

I'm about to pick up a new Off Road Premium and it has door edge guards. (Just like the last one I rejected the last they got for me because it had some paint damage). I don't want them but I wonder if I'll do a better job taking them off than some heavy-handed Toyota tech. This video makes it look very easy (it's at the 4:30 mark). Of course it doesn't state that the paint will be fine but looking at how they go on and off one would think that it shouldn't damage the paint. If anyone knows otherwise let me know right away, please.

Does anyone have these factory door edge guards installed on a Super White 5th Gen? thinking of getting these because i have two little guys that recklessly open doors in the garage but just dont want them to stand out too much. I also dont see them available for the rear doors on Toyota Website.
