Door question

2001 - The drivers side door will not stay open if it is at the slightest angle. I am tired of the door whacking me in the leg when I am not paying attention.
The thing (very technical term) that appears keep the door open must worn inside the door and appears to be plastic. Any way to fix without tearing the door apart or should I just start wearing a chin guard on my left leg?
