Door speaker replace/upgrade

Cheap speakers with an amp will sound better than expensive speakers with no amp. That amp will require a bit of wiring though, not difficult just time consuming.

Agreed, however I'd rather put that sweet amp money towards inner and outer tie rod ends. Call me crazy.

Not to thread jack, but has anyone done a post with front speaker options that fit with little modification into the pods?

By pods, do you mean modifying the speaker mounting plate to fit new ones or replacing the tweeters? I've done both.

The decent brands will give you an adapter plate that fits on pretty much anything.

Gotcha. The Toyota tweeters are screw in, but aftermarket are not. Forget all the adapters, etc. and just glue it onto the existing bracket and you're good. No need to modify anything.

I hot glued new tweeters to the plastic grill after dremmeling both to fit. Leave yourself slack in harness for access.

Cool. Thanks for the advice. Any insight on if there are sets (or brands) that are better fits than others?

I know Infinity fit, but that's all I've tried so far. I know the tweeter are the exact same size as the stock ones as far as diameter, but just a little bit taller. I can't find measurements though. The actual speaker itself is 3/4" though, if that helps match.

Thanks for the info. I need to just yank the stock one out to see what I'm dealing with. Want something that is going to be secure, but not permanent.

I removed tweeter cover many times thinking install out.

I installed JBL Stage 600C component 6.5" in front, Tweets are made in a way easily trimmed to fit cover with 360 coverage hot glue. Not permanent.

Sorry to be coming late to this thread but i am doing a complete overhaul of all wiring and speakers in my 2008 4Runner Sport.

This is my shopping list.. Will everything fit with no issues?
