Double DIN in my 86 turbo 4Runner?

I have an 87 SR5 and from what I measured it should fit perfect.

The opening in 1st Gens is double DIN.
My 83 came with the AM/FM/cassette and equalizer.

opening is the right size, but the spacing in back for vent box will cause problems along with harness. Reroute your harness and possibly the ac fuse, then space it as far forward as possible with washers and it will squeeze in. What I did was remove all the speaker wires from the back of my new radio plug because I used amps, and it made it a lot cleaner. But I did a true double din dvd nav

from memory, which isn't to good these days!

* just remove the screw securing the bezel... lower left and right corner (?)

* remove 4 screws securing the radio mount (?)

* remove the radio, and spacer - if needed, and unplug wire harness/es and antenna

* install radio without spacer and reinstall the wire harness/es and antenna

* install the bezel

i think that's it.

Have you bought it yet? Check Crutchfield.com for fit. If you get it from them they give you an install sheet and all the wiring specific to your 4Runner. My son and I were looking at cheap double dins at Walmart and they had one that was not true double din. It was wide. Anyone who buys it would end up hacking the dash bezel. You shouldn't have to trim anything to make a stereo fit. I did get a single from Crutchfield a couple of years ago and then got the same unit a little cheaper for the older 4Runner on eBay.

Ditto on Crutchfield. Only place to purchase car audio. Speakers and amps can be found cheaper but buy the head unit from them for unlimited phone support and free install kit. A vendor you will not remove from your contact list.

mine. while not "stock or available" for '87, this is a double din radio/cd/tape from a toyota of similar vintage. it fits exactly into the space, and uses the factory wiring & plugs. no modifications needed at all. although i don't know the ins/outs, supposedly an ipod adapter will also plug right into the other slots that are in this unit, too.
