This is kind of a funny one, the picture doesn't do the grade justice as usual, but my tire slipped off the path and slid down onto a tree. My bumper got snagged on the tree, so I was unable to back up.

Also a minor update:

I hope to have the hydro assist steering done this weekend. I ordered a rebuilt and tapped box from Trail-Gear and a 6x2" ram.

Then the following weekend I am headed to the Flats in Marion, NC to compete in the V6 class of the Hill Climb Challenge

Kick some ass, and take some names Dous. Your rig should be a serious competitor.

I enjoyed the photos, and really enjoy seeing posts where someone does a SAS and actually wheels the rig at the next level, fulfilling the purpose of the SAS. Keep stepping it up, man!
 
Just read through most of this build. Awesome job. I have ordered enough stuff from you guys over the years, now that I am close by I will have to come check this 4Runner out. Keep up the good work.

Yea it should be interesting for sure, I am not sure there will be many other "built" V6's out there so I may have a decent chance :snacker:

Hey Dous, your rig is awesome., but damn could you post some pics that would turn me away from the sas. It's funny when I see an update I sort of resist looking at it like the girl with bug boobs in the room. I want to look but try to fight it because I know I'll want more. Then next thing you know I'm day dreaming and watching sas conversions..:bravo:

this thing is soooo BOSS...
what do you do for a living. because all that looks expensive. I'm livin' that peasant life over here in my stock runner with 1.5" of travel. yeee

There have been a lot of SAS's going on here lately,tough to resist the urge!

I go to school and work full time, living at home helps...so I have a lot of expendable income.
 
Updates:

Driven 4k miles since the SAS. Wheeled it at Windrock, Uwharrie and the Flats.

Threw hydro assist on. Did a 6x2 ram, steering is a bit slow, so I will need to upgrade the pump sooner than later.

Just this weekend I did a feature photo shoot with a prominent off road magazine, so watch for that in the future!

I am headed down to Gulches ORV Park at the end of this month, so there should finally be some more wheeling pictures.

I am starting to plan my new setup for the rear, it will start with the gas tank relocation. I then plan on doing an FJ80 rear axle with the 4WheelUnderground 4 link system, with 14" Sway-Aways.

As usual, really good stuff, you're truck means business. I just can't help but want, although I'm not sure how much more fun I'd have. What's the comparison for you? Does it lie in the durability or the increased nimbleness, straight up BA factor? Both, one more than the other or something else? I must resist clicking on your guys threads..
 
For me it was night and day.

I don't worry about breaking puny IFS parts. If I were to break a shaft or U-joint I just unlock the hub and drive home

It is SO much more stable just because the front can articulate so much. It does tend to load up in some certain situations, but that isn't a huge issue.
 
You sounded like the terminator there.."puny ifs". So maybe I should read back but have you broken a shaft and been able to drive it home? Yesterday my friend broke the the flange on both axles on front passenger side of a built yj. He couldn't go far b4 we had to pull the axle, which took maybe 10 mins. That alone made me want more...

Haven't broken a shaft yet, and don't really anticipate it happening. I am running chromo shafts with chromo U-joints. But I was simply saying that in the event of a breakage I can simply unlock the hub and drive home in most instances.
