DOWNPOUR11's Build Thread

Nice CB set-up! If you get a used dremel you could get a cutting disc to move the CB to the ash tray spot. Although dremels like to melt plastic.

I like the exhaust routing too. Up and out of the way.

Thanks man! I ended up going to harbor freight and buying the "Rotory Tool" for $10. It's a POS and very weak. It did work to grind off the powercoating on the ODL mount though.

While I'm on that topic though, the ODL (drifter) mount is really cool but it would be nice if 1) It was made out of stainless steel, 2) It had a 1/2" hole instead of 5/8", and 3) It wasn't powdercoated.

I'm probably gonna have a fab shop replicate it with 604 stainless steel that way it won't rust. After grinding off some of the powdercoating to allow the antenna to ground, it rained yesterday and is now already starting to show signs of rust. A little disappointed.

CB does work great though and my SWR is at 1.6
I'm gonna add a ground wire from the mount to the frame to try and lower that reading.

There seems to be too much plasti-dipping going on lately. Been wanting to get rid of the rest of the chrome on my truck for quite some time so I went out and bought a can. Chrome is finally gone.

I broke off all the old clips holding the grill on. I've only removed it once to install the external tranny cooler and this time I pulled it off, each little piece of plastic just snapped haha so I just zip tied it back on. Much better. There is one zip tie showing on the bottom passenger side so I just painted it black to match. Can't really notice it.

Bad pic, but rear emblems are done too.

Lookin good! Definitely like the way you routed your exhaust...

Do those 35's rub much at full flex in the rear?

Much obliged sir!
The rear will fully stuff. A little too much though...it gets so far in the fenderwell the tire will grab the lip of the fender. It's bent out a little bit on both sides but it's pretty minor though I'm not worried about it.. I just need to extend my bumpstops about an inch and it will solve the problem.

Did some weekend camping with Jon, Stoke and two of Jon's friends near Bowman Lake, CA. Had another awesome time. Busted my passenger side upper ball joint, the snap ring for the bushing is completely bent out of whack lol I'll try and get a pic tomorrow. Not going to fix it, when funds permit I'll get some uniball UCA's.

Here are a lot of pics:

Stoke and I did some shoveling on a hairy little part that goes right to a vertical drop-off into a creek.

Jon's friend's Xterra did impressively well, no problems whatsoever. He's got an e-locker too.

I thought I'd try and race Jon at who can air up faster from 8 psi... Pretty sure he had all four tires aired up in about 5 minutes. When he was done, my tire was at maybe 15. Thought I'd try out this wonder of a product:

Yeah it was a lot of fun though I had a great time. Jon has some good videos and pics and Stoke has some really good pics too. Jon had to pull me out of that trouble spot I'm sure he'll post that vid prob tonight lol

I can't make it Monday I started school again so I'll be somewhat busy. We'll try and plan somethin soon though.

Here's my passenger side upper ball joint busted to shit. The snap ring is all bent up. Whatever lol now I just have to find some sort of money for some uniball UCA's. Anyone want to give me some money? :couch2:

Yep! Got back up here last week. Noo I havent seen that one yet unfortunately. But I saw this other white 1st gen with either 35s or 37s. So many sick toyotas up here I love it. Especially driving on nord near safeway theres a little shop or something with like 4 dope toyotas behind the fence.

When you pull out of your street onto 5th (the apartments are on the right), just look to your left across the street you can't miss it. I love that 1st gen.

Nice trip man! I've done a lot of winter camping over the years, and I've been snowed on more than a few times, but I've never gone out and set up camp on top of snow. You guys are kinda nuts on that one.

I thought it was pretty cool to see the fire ring in the snow. I noticed Jon's hood up in that one pic... did the battery go dead overnight?

BTW, it's funny how you guys make that Xterra stay in the back, and there's a few pictures where the 4Runners are all together and the Xterra is by itself about 20 yards behind like a red-headed step child. :pound:

It was so much fun. The original plan was to do a heavy snow run/camping trip and see how far we could get. I, of course, didn't check the weather forecast because I didn't really care lol. Didn't expect to get that much snow overnight but we didn't have any problems getting out. The spot that Stoke and I shoveled the next morning was a little sketchy on the way up. Stoke and myself got stuck and Jon had to pull us out, but I think the overnight snow solved any problem getting back down through that turn. Our ass end kept wanting to slide towards the edge of that drop off on the way up.

The other guys set up tents in the snow, I on the other hand, slept in my truck on an air mattress hahaha I cheated. Also woke up in the middle of the night in my thin sleeping bag and turned the heater on.

Jon's truck died because he was playing music for a couple hours. My favorite quote from him after all of us drinking a bunch of crown royal and honey jack was "DUDE, I bet you it will start." He said it with such certainty and confidence, and that's after the truck was already dead for like 30min hahaha

 Stoke wanted to take some shots of just the 4runners so Ryan stayed a few feet back, but yeah that's exactly what I was thinking when I took/looked at the pictures. His Xterra did awesome though. He could've plowed the way if it wasn't for the low ground clearance. I'm pretty sure he's gonna build it. I never knew about this site, and I'm guessing the owner of Toytec has something to do with it: Home - Nisstec Lifts: Nissan Lift Kits: XTerra Lift Kits, Frontier Lift Kits, Titan Lift Kits, Nissan Truck Lift Kits

Amazing pictures Rob.. Can't beat fun offroad adventures and good stories :D

I'm with BFAD, you guys are nuts for camping on the snow lol. I'd do it too though so I can't say much.

4Runner looks great btw
