DOWNPOUR11's Build Thread

Poor Sam! Glad too hear he's OK. At least it was a flat roll and not down a hill. You weren't lyin about the height on that thing. I got the seats done and skids should be up tomorrow. Hit me up if you wanna go wheeling tomorrow in stead. I shouldn't need skid for snow......right! I'll have the wife and lil one and Bayn. Have to be back by 3 to pick up Graci from school. I'm thinking about the road under Scotts Flat Reservoir just East of Nevada City. That's where I got stuck last year and was lucky to have the winch.

I can't tomorrow, I have a laundry list of bullshit to do lol Let me know if your crazy boss will give you a Saturday off sometime soon! Take some pics!

It should be savable… He's going to buff it out and get an interior cage in there. He literally finished the build a week ago. Pretty sure this was it's first outing. It definitely sucks, but shit happens and it comes with what we love to do. We all still had a great time. Luckily no one was hurt.

I tried to knock the windshield out with a sledge but it wasn't budging. It didn't want to fold back out lol Our friends got a trailer up there for him the next morning and got him back to Sacto.

Man, talk about heart burn. Parts are parts, but the hours in the shop are what makes these worth what they are. Can't get those back and I'm getting old.

Edit: BTW, congrats on ROTM. Told ya I had my work cut out for me trying to keep up with your build.

More good times.

Except our buddy blew his engine up and my other friend's alternator took a crap so I had to tow him out.

Found a line of big rocks to play on, so we just kept hitting them one after another.

How was the drive up?

Actually not that bad at all. I aired down in Magalia at the gas station thinking it was going to get real icy but I didn't slip at all. It ended up being really warm up there compared to last weekend where it was around 4 degrees. I think it was around 40 degrees this time. Sucks though because there's no snow in the forecast anytime soon, and everything is pretty much melted off. When it hits again we're going to battle the blizzard.

Oh, on another note, I ordered new shims and some shock oil on Friday. Matt (brocoma on pirate) is going to tune my coilovers for me. Very excited for the plush ride and go-fast comfort.

So there's this thing called the sun that illuminates trail for you if you drive on it from the hours 6:30 am to 6:30 PM. You should try it some time.

I wish I had wheeling spots so close to home...I could 30mph it all the way to the trailhead and have some fun.

Unfortunately I'm 225 miles from the closest LEGAL place to wheel and I can't drive over 35mph :sobbing:

Any trips planned for the time around Dec 26 - Jan 5th?? I have all that time off, and am debating driving down to do a roadtrip through Cali and hitting some national parks. If I'm taking the runner, might as well hit a trail or two for fun

Not to sidetrack your thread, DP, but how about more pics of the rattlecan beasty with the blue exo?

Yeah that's my buddy Andrew's truck. He was stoked to finally get it out again. It's a trailer rig and last month he had it parked on the trailer outside our friends house and some stupid drunk college kid came around the corner at 70mph and totaled the trailer, launching the truck into the neighbors yard. Crazy enough the truck is fine, but he had to chop the trailer up and he ended up dovetailing it. So he was happy to wheel it again, until his alternator took a crap at 4am on the trail and I had to tow him out. I'll post some pics, I have a few of his truck many pages back but lemme see what I can find.

'88 (i think) 4runner dana 60 front and rear, detroit and spool, marlin duals, 40's, flat belly, 14" bilsteins, TG long slip DL. He's 3linking the front next month.

We go up every weekend. I think the consensus is that we're staying in town for new years and hitting the bars since it's on a Tuesday, then celebrating new years up at high lakes that weekend. You're more than welcome to join us, I just gotta talk to my friend who's cabin it is if you're planning on staying the night to see if it's cool with him. Otherwise the High Lakes are about 30+min from Chico. Easy drive. Just google Butte Meadows, CA and that's pretty much the trailhead. We all meet at the Bambi Inn/Bar.

That sucks man. You're link geometry has gotta be screwed up. Something's up. You get that front DL in?

I don't think its the geometry, truck is insanely stable otherwise and flat through corners. It's in the steering and it's only over bumps. Got the alignment exactly where it should be and it helped, but it's still not 100%...picking up my driveshaft tomorrow and ordered a TG steering stabilizer so we'll see.

Also wanna have my coilovers looked at by someone who's good with them to make sure the oil level and nitrogen pressures are right; thinking it might have something to do with the shock's ability to absorb and rebound...maybe? Grasping at straws at this point...

Just realized this belongs in my build thread...CTRL+C!

Sorry for the highjack Rob,

I don't think its the geometry

Sure? Sounds like a panhard or possibly lower link triangulation problem. I had a similar problem once with a 3linked 2nd gen.

Pm me if you care to hear the details. Be interested to see what you come up with.

Anytime! My thread is a pic thread and BS thread anyway. But yeah, sounds like a link geometry issue to me as well. Hope you can help Bryan sort it out, I'm not very well versed in that field yet.

Matt tuned my coilovers today. Holy shit what a world of difference. It drives so much better now. I'm uploading a couple videos but I thought I'd post this pic of a friend of mine at fordyce a couple months ago for the time being…

and yes, he crawled over it.
