Man you 4runner looks great! You are making me want to sell my donahoes and get some 883 and lc coils so I can run 35s. How is it power wise with stock gears and 35's? When I put my 32s on I noticed a power lose

Thanks man! Meh, going up some hills sucks, but I'm re gearing soon enough. I meant to do it last month but I got side tracked.... I have 3.91's so it's worse than it should be if I was geared a tad bit lower like a lot of other 4runners. My engine is strong though and it's gotten used to the 35's. At first it was horrible, but a week later it wasn't THAT bad. It's my DD and it's holding up excellent.

What gearing are you going with? My 4runner says it has 4.10s but I think ithas 3.90s cause I have driven one with 4.10s and it had much more of the line. Do you think 35s will clear with 883s and 8 wraps?

Either 4.88's or 5.29's. I'm leaning more towards 5.29's.
You will clear fine with 8 wraps, but you'll need topout spacers for the 883's if you don't want a body lift.

I've driven Rockdawg84's 4runner on 35's. He has 4.10's but his is a 5speed. It had a lot more power than mine.

DDM 35w 5000k hi/lo kit installed! Huge difference. I've read a lot of people saying the hi beams don't really make much difference, but mine definitely do. Adjust the headlights right and they light up the road for miiiiiiles!! (exaggerating) but really though, worth every penny.

No one has flashed me yet, though I just installed them a couple hours ago. I drove around a bit but no flashes... Finally, I can see at night. Compare the pics of the HID's to the pics I posted last weekend, you will see my lights on.

EDIT: misread your question GottaBeTRD lol of course you know where the headlight adjustments are....my bad

I don't know where I adjusted mine, I just kept turning that screw till I was happy.

yeah that looks great it gives me more faith towrds my HIDs. Im hitting myself for adjusting mine. I got flashed once when I first intalled them but that was within 3 or 4 days of driving but that convinced me to bring them down Now i only can see like 25 to 30 feet in front of me, however when pulling up on a car they dont shine in the car in front at all. so i guess thats nice for the other driver...

I want to be courteous still but i want to be able to see too haha! Wish i had the projector retrofit LOL!

did you use a wall or just an open area like your pics when you adjusted them?

I like to shine right in car's back windows lol no place to hide! Spotlighting people when I'm behind them hahaha. I know maybe that is inconsiderate, but it makes me laugh.

I must have just gotten lucky adjusting them because I didn't really use any point of reference. I had the 4runner parked diagonally at an open garage so I pretty much just guessed and eyeballed it.

Do you have the OEM headlight housings on your '96? They seem to put out a nice, even light pattern, with what looks like a decent cut-off so you won't be blinding oncoming traffic. I may just have to order some for my '97.

Its funny you say that about shining in the back window, when i first got mine i pulled up on this guy in an old corolla with no tint and i could tell very much so how bald he was... it made me smile. LOL!

GottaBeTRD, I'm glad that you are at least aware of others and trying not to light up the cars in front of you. The bottom line is that HIDs blind other drivers more than standard lights even if you adjust them low. Little bumps in the road throw your low slung light spray high on other vehicles, and these highly focused beams make it like camera flash for other cars when you hit a bump. It sucks. It won't happen every time HID's pass you, but it does happen pretty frequently.

And if your lights are hitting the rear view mirror of the guy in front of you, it sucks for him. Funny as it may be for you, it sucks. I don't laugh and think "oh, you got me!" when people do it to me.

I'm really not trying to be on a soap box or anything, but I have seen alot of HID threads lately, while some HID's that I have seen were perfectly pleasant to pass, I would say about half or more are worse than standard lights. And flashing people intentionally really is not very funny.

I have to agree with you, and it is my main concern with potentially putting one of these HID kits in the OEM reflector housing. It may seem like harmless fun to some to blind people, but eventually they'll meet some unstable person that doesn't appreciate being blinded.

Road rage incidents that have ended in fatalities, have been started by even less than being blinded by headlights.. That's certainly not an appropriate response either, but you never know what another individuals state of mind might be.

Just a little reality check.

Anyway, Downpour11, if it's not too much trouble, and assuming I haven't annoyed you with a bit of preaching. I and I'm sure others would be interested in seeing what kind of light pattern and cut-off you have against the side of a building, when parked on level ground about 50 feet away from said building.

Seeing that would either give me a clear conscience to go ahead with a installing an HID kit, or not.

Would driving towards a mirror or glass building be a good way to test it? LOL. I wish i could see my lights from the other point of view, i just dont trust other people driving my truck haha.

EDIT: i was going to mention my thoughts on all this too. Sorry i dont want to jack your build thread but ill keep in mutual.

I don't know if its cause i'm in a truck or if my eyeballs just suck at seeing but i rarely have ever been blinded by an HID kit. I think every 10 or so cars here in utah have an HID kit and a lot of them are not retrofitted. Every once in a while ive seen a little civic or something with a ridiculous 55W kit and my eyes are of course drawn to it like a bug but that hasn't happened too much. I have however, been blinded from the back from these douches in lifted trucks with regular halogens that didn't re-aim their lights too, now those guys piss me off... so yeah HID's would suck too.

IMO this is the same thoughts for the majority of the drivers out there; BUT, I know that they effect the older people. When i went home for the holidays my Dad was goin off about HID's and how he hated them. He had eye sugury so his eyes are pretty sensitive to light. LOL He was flahing all kinds of people HIDs and Halogens thinking they had their highbeams on kinda funny but really its not.

I read somewhere when they changed the old oil lamp headlights on cars to the hologen people hated them, and now they have HID's it may be the same thing?? i duno anyway again im sorry to take up space on your thread for this

Anyway, I'd like to see what outdoor logic comes up with. If I don't like it that much, I'm probably gonna have a friend of mine build me one. Somewhat based off the CBI... I'm still thinkin, but I really like that CBI.

The 5 speed makes a big difference IMHO. I do have the 3.4 but I am still thinking of 4:88's as I recently came into a locked rear 3rd. I didn't think 3rd gens came with 3:90s' I thought that was for 4th gens and FJ's. But I really don't know. I personally would keep the 4:10's and go double transfer cases if it wasn't so blasted expensive. Rob got your text sorry i haven't gotten back to you. We totally need to get out together. Got my 85 back on the road now and it is a blast to wheel.
