Save yourself a bunch of aggravation and just pump some grease into the fitting. Above all, avoid the stealer that thinks a code reader will identify the problem.

that's what i'm planning-thanks for the recommendation, you're referring to greasing the zerk correct? and ya after the talk of code reader, i'm taking it to another dealer, i want this taken to a dealer to document this issue. I've already called up toy headquarters and opened a cse, tier 2 guy says first he's heard of this issue

from what i read the best way to duplicate this issue is rapid braking, with the AC running? what about with the heater, does it matter if ac is on hi or lo

My rig was bad, I could not go more then 500 miles after grease with out the thump bump. I had the entire unit disassembled and reassembled twice. Then after 20K miles of frustation and escalation and finally got Toyota to replace drive shaft Part # 37110-6A480 with part # 37110-60A40 found in the Lexus TSB #L-SB-0116-08. I have been driving over 10K miles with no thump bump sensation.

The control arms found in earlier versions of the TSB are not required to fix the issue in my 2008 V8 4Runner.

is the 2010-2012 rear drive shaft the same as the current 2016 4runners? Since the tsb applied to those years, my current 16 has a thump/forward bump sensation as well, wondering if it's using the same drive shaft or if toy ever changed it.

I have this exact same thump with my 2005 V6 with 112,000 miles. I took it to the stealership to get the drive shaft greased and it still thumps. Now I would like to grease the zerks myself. What grease do I use?

You want lithium based.

I added quite a bit. Visually saw it come out of the shaft seal and had to wipe it away. Did that until the color changed to new.

Haven't heard the clink since. I also have a spacer lift which will change the angle and might be helping decrease the clunk amount.
