Drivers Door Speaker Issue

I pulled out the old subwoofer today and replaced it with an aftermarket one that will be pushed by my aftermarket amp (I just ran the cable, haven't hooked it up yet).



When I put everything back together I started it up and realized that all of my speakers are working (including center dash) except for my driver side front door speakers.... I don't have time to pull it back apart today but does anyone have advice on what I should be looking at/for when I do? I only disconnected the sub so I know its not forgetting to plug something back in.

take the door panel out and take the speaker out and get a ohm reading on the speaker, if its 0, its no good.

I guess I should clarify everything ive done in the past few weeks. I put new speakers in all of the doors and they've worked fine since then. I replaced the headunit with an aftermarket one and it worked fine as well. It wasn't until I was working in the back at the subwoofer/amp enclosure that I had an issue

Feel like I'm talking to myself here but I'll ramble on for anyone that may experience this.....

I pulled everything apart and checked for any lose connections, i reseated all the connections at the amplifier, i even plugged the old sub back in for shits and giggles.... nothing.... i'm no closer to the solution than before. I may try to see if i can put a speaker cable on the harness, at the subwoofer, that comes from the headunit. See if that gives me any sound to rule the subwoofer out.

You said you have a stock subwoofer and center dash speaker, so you have the JBL system, yes? The stock JBL system has all speakers driven from the amplifier in the rear - wiring goes from there to each speaker. How are you getting a signal from your aftermarket headunit to your speakers? Are you bypassing that amp for the door speakers? More information on the layout of your system is needed to speculate.

I purchased the PAC RP4.2-TY11 Radiopro4 Ty11 harness so that I could still use the factory amplifier. All of the other speakers are being pushed by that amp just fine. I have not made any modifications to the amp or wiring, only replaced the headunit (which I drove around listening to just fine for a while after this was done) and replaced all of the speakers. The sub is not hooked up as I'm trying to address this issue first. I replaced the speakers BEFORE the headunit so I know they worked just fine in this new setup as well. It was only after the poking around near the amp that was required to remove and replace the subwoofer that this occurred. For further info, this new sub had new speaker wire run so I did not attempt to modify any existing harnesses at that time.

Unfortunately there's no quick and easy way to diagnose these things.

How is the signal being fed to the stock amp? Via the RCA connectors?

That's the one I have. It is connected so that it is being supplied to the amp via the stock wiring, not RCA.

Not sure what I was thinking earlier - of course you're not using the RCAs with the stock subwoofer.

Unfortunately you have a very complicated chain of harnesses, allowing for many different points for failure. Makes it much more difficult to diagnose. I would use a multimeter and stark checking each piece of the chain end to end.

I would start like this:

1) Is the signal actually getting to the amp? Start by testing your headunit harness -> harness that goes into the "box" that does the wiring interface.

2) Is the amp actually sending a signal to the speaker? Disconnect the wiring to the speaker in question and see if any power is being sent down the line...


Or you could do what I did - put a 5 channel amp under the passenger seat, connect it to the headunit via RCA, and run new wiring from the amp to the doors, and new wiring back to the subwoofer. Bypass all the factory harness stuff...

Well I have a 2 channel amp from a previous car that will be pushing the aftermarket sub. I had planned to put a 4-channel amp in later on down the road.

As far as using the multimeter, will I really see enough voltage fluctuation to register appropriately on it?

if you are going to add an 4 channel amp, might as well rip out the whole jbl system, have 3 sets of rca from the deck to the back or where ever you are going to put the amp at, then run new speaker wires to the door. this is the easiest way to bypass the whole amp. it is also easier to just swap the speaker to each side and see if the sound changes.

Holy F! I figured it out by throwing crap at a wall and seeing what stuck. I removed this lovely item when I had it apart because it was a DVD/Navigation component of the old system? Well apparently my front driver's side door speakers are somehow run through it.

Just Need to know

What is the correct Ohmage for the front speaker in a 2003 limited. Mine took a dump and I need to replace it... any suggestions that do not include replacing all the speakers would be great. Jerry
