The KTJO kit for sure works 100% with Jasons bracket. Zero trimming just align the bracket, drill, mount and then slip the KTJO trim on and secure handle.

Assuming you mean the color match between the KTJO driver’s side grip handle and the OEM passenger side, I can’t see a difference.

It is indistinguishable from the OEM color.

Okay, finally got around to doing this. Logistics was my enemy, lol.
Anyways. Install was fairly easy, scale of 1 to 10, a 4. Measurements are key.
I recommend the second bolt you tap in, use a silver, gold or white marker and mark the hole where you need to drill. Take bracket off, start to drill it, then stop.
Put bracket on, with washers underneath the bracket on second hole for elevation issues, then slightly screw it in. Put top bolt in, use a flat on it on top for extra security, and screw it in. Then screw bottom one in..
I flattened the bottom of the handle down, and I still have a slight gap. Cant see it unless you are in front of truck and staring at it. I highlighted so everyone can stare..lol/
I will address this later, washer is in need of my attention..

Driver Side "A" Pillar Grip Handle Install on a 2014 - 2021 T4R

The purpose of this write-up is to help people that are interested in installing a Driver Side "A" Pillar Grip Handle on their 2014 - 2021 Toyota 4Runner. I will list the parts used as well as pictures.

Disclaimer: I am not an engineer, so doing this mod, you and only you take responsibility if something goes wrong. Period!

This Mod is obviously not for everyone, but if you ever owned an FJC or another vehicle that had a Grip Handle in this location, it may be for you.


This mod topic has been discussed in several threads.
I even participated in some of these stating it couldn't be done..... Well, it appears I was wrong!

I cannot and will not take credit for developing this improvement/mod.
All credit goes to Jason!

I saw some photos on Facebook pages recently and reached out to the owner of the photos to track the designer and maker of the kit that will allow us to install the Driver Side "A" Pillar Grip Handle.

So, I reached out to [MENTION=154554]Jasontamu[/MENTION] who's photo is at the link: https://www.toyota-4runner.org/2676265-post24192.html , he makes the kit and sells them! I don't know if he follows the forums.
He is an engineer for Boeing and works full time, and travels as well for his job.
He makes these in his spare time, so sometimes he has some on hand, other times he has to manufacture them. So, remember that when you order one.

The Kit comes with custom bracket that you mount to the "A" Pillar of your vehicle using two self-tapping sheet metal screws. He provides a paper template that helps you line it up and step by step photo instructions printed out.

Jason states, "No one has had any trouble installing so far. I sold about 80 of them so far.
You have to remove the cover plate on the A-pillar that says "SRS curtain Air bag" under there is a bolt and the top of the handle mounts there. the bracket mounts at the bottom location to attach the handle there.

I provide the hardware, but you need to go to your local Toyota dealer and get the handle."

Drill, step bit up to an inch preferred, hammer drill helps. Exacto box cutter type knife. Dremel tool can help speed things up.
Patience. And a towel to keep crap off the dash.. Pretty much it. And safety glasses,

No one has ever published or suggested any torque specs.
It is up to the end user that's doing this mod at his/her own risk to work this out on their own accord.

You could answer your own question by checking the torque on the passenger side handle bolts, the apply your desired torque to your bolt in question.

Only time I'm going to suggest!

The 10mm bolts are low, but torques nonetheless.
I have seen the handles use philips screws.
And breakaway torque is a bit different to check.
There is no written torque specs. Seems its good n tight.

I finally got my handle installed this weekend. Definitely one of my favorite mods so far. The install wasn't that hard and it wasn't that easy either. Having a Dremel with cutting discs, sharp blades and basic mechanic tools are all you really need.
