I tried 2 different LED 1156 type bulbs in mine and neither would work right. One not at all and one rapid flashing. Something about the factory flasher not liking the resistance of LED's as it's been discussed here before.
I couldn't find the flasher as I think they put it in a module now instead of out by itself like in the 4th Gens.
Got fed up with it and instead put PIAA eXtreme white 1156 bulbs in. They work great and are really bright as I can see the light reflecting/flashing off overhead signs pretty far down the highway. They technically aren't legal because they serve as turn signals too ,which are supposed to be amber.
I have amber turn signals on my mirrors facing forward so not that big of deal to me. I did get pulled over several other times for other stuff and they never noticed and changing out the factory bulbs was one of the first things I did almost 1 1/2 ago already. I had just 1156 clears in before the PIAA's which you can get at wally world for $3.
Here are the ones I have in now but you can get them cheaper online at other places........ they are a direct replacement as our are 1156a with the a standing for amber. PIAA Corporation USA - 1156 Miniature Xtreme White Plus

You need to purchase a voltage regulator. Go to superbrightleds.com
Do you have any pics of these bulbs on your rig for reference? I really want to do this, but would like to see what it would look like first. Thanks.

Did you get tickets or warnings on those Mike?
Amber or white for DRL's and turn signals is legal in Ca? It's kinda wierd that Toyota used the same lights to do both especially when they could have put another blinker in the amber front corner lenses like most.Plenty of room in that lense.But that's another potential future mod if I get around to it and then separately wire the DRL's.
I got pulled over for speeding 3 times but only got one ticket in it, in New Mexico last summer, for going 82 in a 65.I have radar but he got me when I crested a hill and he was on the other side. Heard 2 beeps and saw his lights come on. The other ones were only a couple of miles over the limit and warnings. I think they wanted to check out the truck as they were more interested in it then me...lol They were also at ~2am when I get off work so those ones were trolling for a DUI! One said he clocked me at 38mph in a 35 zone ....please.
Then got pulled over while taking my kids home Sunday before last. Making a green light signal left across 3 lanes in Southlake, a ritzy section,and the cop said I didn't yield enough to him and he had to hit the brakes. Which was BS,he was 100ft away and I saw him, but I thought he saw the front white turn signal and pulled me over for that. Never mentioned the turn signal! Again , a walk around the truck ,some questions about it and a warning for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.lol
If you look at my signature there is a "link to pics" link or there's a bunch of pics the build thread. A lot of them have them on. It's kind of deceiving on how bright they are because I have HID's in my factory fogs on most of them. Not a whole lot to lose if you don't like them. I think I paid $15 for them on feebay........... Some states can be sticklers for stuff like this,, so be forewarned .....or be ready to play dumb with a story that you thought DRLs were always white.:zoom:

Nope ,4157's have a different type base and won't work.
I did have some 1157's from my beemer that I shaved one of the post off to make work for awhile til one burnt out.Switched to clear 1156's from Walmart then to the PIAA's.

The charts wrong for those turn signal/drl bulbs for sure. 5ths definitely take 1156 bulbs in them .The 4157's have what's called a wedge style base and the 1156's are bayonet style based.
See the difference and they are not interchangeable.The second one is a PIAA 1156.

I added the Sylvania silver star 1156 bulbs today. We will see how long these bulbs last.They were in stock for $9.99 from O'reilly.
As a side note, I looked in the manual for the best way to remove the bulb and it recommended removing the fender liner. Do not waste the time. Just reach up and grab the base, there is plenty of room to do this without removing anything. Had both bulbs installed within a couple minutes.

Pull the dash panel off that has your mirror control switch ( it pulls straight towards you- no screws). When you look behind it and down towards the floor you will see plug F11. It's white and has 18 wires. F11 is the only plug you will see by itself.
That plugs into a black plastic box which is your turn signal flasher assembly.
Not sure what you can do from there...
