DRL lights stopped working

Hi all,

I searched a bit and found several conflicting (perhaps for non-5th gen) solutions to this problem - so I am a bit confused as to what to look for.

My high-beam DRL's just stopped working the other day. The high beams work fine. Given that this is a PWM feed into the high beams, I assume there is some module or something somewhere that has gone belly up?

I looked at a fuse block diagram and don't see anything separate for the DRL's ... unless I missed something.

Suggestions appreciated.

Sorry, a bit confused by your conundrum. Are you saying your DRLs do not work? But the bulb will light up during high-beam operation?

Yes, sorry if that was not clear. High beams work fine normally, but do not illuminate with the stalk switch in DRL position.

if you are using factory halogen bulbs - these are dual filaments and it is possible to burn out the drl filament while the high beam filament still works. change the bulb and do so in pairs.

I was not aware of this - I thought it was a pulsed power source to the normal high beams that facilitated DRL on a 5th gen.

Wondering..... could it be your DRL relay?

I was wondering ... I found this:

But the headlights are working fine otherwise ... but I suppose it could still be the relay. My thoughts were if there were a module that generated the reduced voltage for DRL, however, I don't know where that is.

Other folks with this problem seem to also have headlight issues based on my searches. I don't.

Look thru this thread. I think there is a relay, IIRC, for about 27.00 someone posted the part # of.
DRL Disable but keep Auto Headlights

Unless you can have the dealership check your current relay.

Just a thought, and I'm sure you are probably aware of this. On my '19 Limited, there is "auto" and there is "DRL off". "off" is printed very small.

The ORP doesn't have Auto setting. I have verified that the switch is in the "DRL", which is one position from OFF. Trust me, I checked that!

and what have you contributed? i admitted my mistake and moved on.

back on topic - there is no fuse for DRL. it'll be defective relay or slim possibility bad wiring. most likely it is relay.

Encountered the same thing yesterday In a 2019. Replaced what I think we're stock OEM Sylvania 9005 DRL/High Beams with Sylvania
SilverStar Ultra Fog Light/Headlight Bulb 9005SU-2's. All was fine for about a week when I realized the DRL's weren't turning on but retained the high beam function.

Coming across a couple of threads there seemed to be some consensus of Toyota ECU overthinking going on. Pulled the negative terminal, let it marinate for 4 hours and Voila. Light.

FWIW, had a similar issue on a 4th Gen and the battery disconnect always seems to restart the 4Runner AI to it's new setting.

Funny ... Mine started working on their own, too. Traded it towards a 21 TRD Pro and they were working on trade-in day. LOL.
