I should have taken care of this 6 months ago but I have until the end of the month to get it registered.
So finally tore into the spindle to put in a good CV axle.
I tell you what, some people shouldn't touch brakes...if you don't know what you are doing...ask!!
There are supposed to be 6 bolts holding the rotor assembly...Genius probably started out with 6 but only 4 survived and only one was tight.
Inside of the dust shield is destroyed
Off to the hardware store for the right stuff

Well the hunko'junk is facing the opposite direction for about the first time in 8-9 months. Drove it around the block to check my front end repairs. Worked fine. My tire plans fell through though. Will pick up some take offs in a few days.
Seeing the front bumper straight on from the front doesn't look as bad as I was originally thinking...we'll see:dunno:

Thanks! I might have a couple more around..
No luck finding decent used tires... All the used ones I found around here were overpriced and total crap. Finding take offs didn't pan out either.
I ended up getting a set of new pizza cutters from Discount Tire. A hair over $300 and they disposed of my bald tires. Compared to why I looked at used this wasn't a bad deal. Puts my investment in the truck about $1100
These are some of my favorite tools. Makes life easy when you don't have a big compressor
Had to add some paratrooper being
New tires and all 4 on the ground, these will get me by till the suspension gets done. I went ahead and threw the stock bumper back on in the ease of easy front turn signals for now
It has a little more of the saggy 4runner butt that I remembered but that will get fixed.
Cleaned off 9 months of dirt, etc from the windshield etc. Was happy to find 10-12 rock chips in the windshield so that will need to get fixed too..
Hopefully get it through emissions on Friday...fingers crossed..
Just got back from emissions. *At first it was close to failing for CO, but the lady was cool and said rev it up to 2500 rpms. *A minute later she said congrats you passed.
So good for 2 more years
Congrats. And thanks for reminding me of how thankful I am to live in a non-emissions-testing state. :thumb:

Thanks, In the Portland Area it use to be 25 year old + vehicles didn't need it (yes this is 22) and my parents house was outside the DEQ area but that changed a few years ago. It would be nice to live where i didn't need to worry about emissions.
After driving this thing for a few days it is nice to be back DD a Toyota.
Engine runs strong but i am seriously thinking of converting to a 5 speed for some acceleration. It would also make adding the dual cases from the 81 easier too.
What it could really use is one of [MENTION=134144]1UZrunner[/MENTION] 's Lexus conversions. If you ever get the chance to look at his 1UZ powered 94 4Runner in person you would swear the install was factory

Yep - no emissions testing and a permanent vehicle registration - the joys of a 25 year old T4R. As far as engine and tranny go, I believe I'll stick with my stock 4 banger and 5 speed; assuming, that is, that inspections of all the important pieces-parts don't turn up any fatal issues.....

So after driving the 4Runner the last few days found the rear windows would go down with the driver's window switch but no go up..had to open the doors and use the rear door switch, pain in the but.
Fortunately I have the complete interior from the free shell a friend gave me. *
Luckily you don't have to pull the entire door panel to swap the door window switchespecially, they just pop out
Cleaned out the replacement and put it into the panel, 10 minutes later I have 4 working windows:hillbill:
I wish I had taken a before picture of the interior, not perfect but at least it doesn't look like a homeless camp any more

one of the things that bugged me when i decided to take on this project was that the fan had one speed, and no A/C. Pulled the dash parts boxes i had from the 4runner shell i had.
Found a good fan switch with the a/c controls and started to pull apart the dash. *
i was very happy:toilet3::wtf: to find evidence of a short
the new 4 speed switch is on the left and the one speed on the right, you can see some melting on the right switch
sure enough,the old switch had shorted for some reason in the past..probably the quality stereo install work*
evidence of the quality that went into the stereo install, wiring from the Goodwill...
i hate leaving a project in this state but ran out of time
upside is now i have all fan speeds and working A/C

Mine looked exactly the same on my 91, put in a new fan switch and same happened again. Check your blower motor resistor. That was the root cause of my switch overheating

Thanks, as far as the transmission- i hate it already. I may see what Rory of Radesigns Products Llc - Shift Controllers has to offer. He is a whiz with these things.
I am planning on having [MENTION=134144]1UZrunner[/MENTION] help me out with the suspension, he does some nice Lexus V8 conversions,that is a possibily down the road that will cure the transmission issues.
got everything thrown back together today.
My original dash pad was of course cracked, i used the donor dash, it was a light brown/tan. decided to give the dupli-color vinyl paint a shot.
came out pretty good.

based on what [MENTION=137933]joeynational[/MENTION] mentioned here and some folks on yotatech said I went ahead and replaced the blower motor resistor today.
I'd like to have a talk with the genious at Toyota who decided to put a failure prone point in such a convience place (tucked under the blower unit on the right side)
I went ahead and pulled the glove box hoping for a little more room.
got it out after a few minutes and cussing, not the easiest thing to get out.
if you need to having a 7mm wrench helps on the back screw/bolt, you can get to the visible screw with a screwdriver or nut driver.
new one on the left, old one on the right..old one was slightly tarnished.
new one should offer a few years of good service
i wanted a back up camera on this thing since once I end up with a 35" spare on the back the rear view mirror is gonna be worthless.
I didn't want multiple screens blocking my view. Did a little research and found that Garmin has a GPS compatible camera.
Enter the Garmin BC30 camera. I found one on ebay reasonably priced

Cool thing is that you can add additional cameras. You can find cheaper systems but as mentioned before i didn't want multiple screens
I mounted it up under the lip of the tire mount thinking it would help offer some great protection. I made cut part of the overhang off to add more light
it does a decent job

I can concur, the blower motor resistor is a PITA to replace. I pulled the carpet back on mine after scratching my head for a half an hour... made it a little easier.

Good call replacing that...i bet if you measured the resistance it would be significantly higher than the new one. Inside the white box is some coils

having to pull the grill in order to change a headlight bulb is another big design flaw on these things.
just what you don't want to find after you get it all back together again
threw in some Silvania Silver Star Ultras
since i was gonna have to pull it all apart again to get the passenger side bulb ring back in i decided i might as well sand and paint the grill and parking light trim. not perfect but better than faded chrome
might do the bumper some time
