Drunk driver cut me off tonight

this really sucks man, on holloween i was driving home and some guy cut the guy in front of me off. the guy in front of me was able to stop, but my tires locked up and I mashed his 90s dodge intrepid pretty good with my front bumper. the guy that cut him off took off. the guy that cut him off was trying to get into the left turn lane and just crossed three lanes without even looking, what an ass. the guy i mashed didnt have insurance im assuming because after i helped him put him rear bumper back on he just took off. my abs system did not work to stop the tires from locking up, which is odd because i have had them come on before when braking over sharp bumps in the road and it does work to stop quicker. my truck was fine though because of my bumper.

Damn man that REALLY sucks, sorry to see a great looking 4Runner headed to the yard. My brother got nailed in almost identical circumstances, except instead of drunk, the driver was(wanna guess??) A friggin illegal with no license and no insurance. $1,000 deductible out the window, car totaled, and no recourse against the driver who was even more broke than my brother, which is hard to believe. Anyone ever try to sue a penniless illegal alien? So glad our court system works in our favor :mad2:

Fight the settlement.... On one of my tacomas, it was totaled, first offer was sub 10. Came out over 15+ in the end for a stock tacoma in Denver.

That's strange that your ABS didn't fire. Your's is an 02 also isn't it? It should have the emergency braking feature too. How did your bumper hold up? This is one of the reasons I want to get a steel bumper up front. I feel like it should hold up better to stupid people/stuff like this and have less of a chance of damaging the truck.

I was going to suggest that too. Especially since you had money in the truck and it wasn't bone stock. Buy it back too if you plan to get another 4Runner. You can switch over a good bit of your stuff.
Did he pay the deductible knowing the other guy didn't have insurance? ^_^

Yeah, with the party at fault lacking insurance, he had to pay the deductible out of pocket. I think he got a partial reimbursement about 6 months later, but his wallet was hurting because he opted for a high deductible for lower premiums.

the bumper itself is fine, unfortunately, it wasnt bolted on very well, only one bolt on each side, and it came up and smashed in the bottom of the glass on my headlight( which i just replaced the night before :[ ). anyways other than that there was no damage, just my stupidity for not bolting the bumper securely. notice the lack sheet metal between the bumper and my headlights? I havent had time to readjust the bumper after the collison, it does look slightly pushed back.
