The Revo literature says that the first few thousand miles the tire has a different rubber compound, after that first band wears, a second band is exposed that provides better rollability.

John, did you go with 265/65 or 265/70? My 265/65 Revo's have been on backorder for over a week and not one Revo to be had in the NC market.

You're right -- the Revos seem to be on backorder in most places. Tirerack has them in only one warehouse last time I checked, with recovery at the other warehouses scheduled for next week. After coming up dry in their first searches, the local shop found 4 of the 5 tires I wanted and got them in overnight; obviously we took those since you can always change out the spare later. So that I can go to a 5-tire rotation scheme, I'm ditching the last AT20 and putting all Revos on.

Ahem, I'll stay with Tirerack and backorder. The Reno warehouse is where they are supposed to ship from, problem is the Reno area is paralyzed with the snowfall. That 'low stock' listed on Tire Rack is a farse. They are out, plain and simple.
Do you know anything about the Long Trail or Rugged Trail? I am trying to stay away from OEM tires though. These tires are offered on Exploders and Jeeps as OEM.

My decision came down to the Revos or Michelin Cross Terrains. The Tirerack ratings swayed me because they come from non-professional owners. Some of the ugly experiences come through, too, which is helpful. Also, the Michelins were higher priced.
Maybe the lesson we all take from this is that we should stay away from OEM tires since the manufacturers try to lower the cost of the vehicle. After all, how many people would be willing to pay a few hundred dollars extra just because the tires are better? I suspect the answer is "very few."
