Duratrac vs Trail Grappler

Hi guys, I'm in the market for some new tires. I currently have 285 65 18 terra grapplers on the truck right now and i want to get something a little bit more aggressive. I love the look of the trail grapplers but i am a little concerned about road noise. I spend a fair amount of time on the road but I like to hit the trails when i can. Another factor is that i spend some time in colorado during the winter months so snow traction is a must. I know there are guys on here who run both tires so any input ya'll have would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to look into this new Nitto exo tire. Exo Grappler All Weather Traction Light Truck Tire It will either be this or the new BFG KO2 for me. Duratracs start out quiet but get noisy as they wear.

I think this is how the new BFG AT KO2 looks. Not a fan of Goodyear. I'm going with the KO2s for my Tacoma after I lift it. I think they will be the best highway tire out of the three. Trail Grapplers are a full mud terrain and will be very loud on the highway and probably not that great in the rain. Duratracks are probably the better middle ground.

Ya. They may be the tire to beat come November. Not as aggressive looking as the duratracs, but they're battle tested down in Baja.

You might take a look at the Kelly safari TSR. ALOT of people run these all year round in Colorado including me and my whole family. Great AT tire for snow, ice, rocks, and the price is still lower than most...

Throw another option out there. Cooper ST Maxx. Same category as the DT but seem quieter to me than when I rode with someone with DTs. Trail Grapplers are loud and you'll sound like a Cessna down the highway especially as they where down. At least that's what I noticed when I saw Ducmonsta and he runs TGs. Better off going the AT/MT hybrid route if you're concerned about road noise.

I can attest to the performance of the ST/Maxx's - they're great. My brother has the Trail Grapplers on his J/K and they are very loud at highway speed, but they are incredible on the trail. The Maxx's are great on the trail, reviews say they perform well in snow and they are considerably less noisy than the Grapplers.

They are heavy though - only come in e-rated if I remember correctly - I bought the Es

I have ran both and my vote would be for the Duratracs. Also like some others said above the coopers and the new Nitto EXO would be great choices. The trail grapplers do ok in snow but don't hold a candle to the Duratracs in all around off/on road winter driving. I didn't find the trails horribly loud but you know they are there. Happy tire hunting and post up some pics when you get the new shoes!
