E-ZPass Mount Location

Do any of you use an E-ZPass and have you had any problems with its use because of where it is mounted? The directions have it mounted behind the rear view mirror (centered). Because of the cable housing that goes to the mirror on the 4Runner, I had to put it off center. I assume it will still function but if any of you know differently, please advise.

Mine is in the same place, other side - no problems at all. In fact, during riding season I ride a motorcycle with it in the top pocket of my jacket and it even picks it up there - so I'd say you're good.

I just carry it in my center console and either hold it up myself or have a passenger do it. Works regardless of whether I hold it to the left or right of my mirror.

Just be aware, and this is not just with the 4runner, but with any vehicle that has that "webbing" or whatever you call it behind the rear view mirror. The suction cups used in many EZ pass type trans ponders will not make a "good" contact due to the uneven surface of that stuff. Within I say 2 or 3 months, those transponders tend to fall off. No real biggy, just re-lick and stick back on. But do not be surprised to find it on the dash, floor or your passenger seat one morning when you enter the car. On one of my other vehicles which has a huge space between the windshield and the front of the dash, I just placed it on the top of the dash and works great and of course, never falls off while I am driving.....be safe.

I could see how a suction cup mount wouldn't work on the black stippling. Mine came with velcro and sticky tape. Seems ok for now; my only concerns is that the black stippling will get hot in the sun and the glue will soften.

I mounted on the passenger side of center just in case this thing emits some kind of crazy mutant causing gamma rays. I say let the wife take one for the team; no more kids for us and no sense in my nuts glowing.

Thats exactly where I have mine. No problems whatsoever.

EZPasses in VA and OH use a really strong "3M Dual Lock", works great and you can request more pre-cut strips for free if you use it on multiple vehicles. (just FYI if it benefits anyone)

I got one of these EZ-Pass Clip Electronic Toll Tag Holder for E-ZPass / i-Zoom / i-Pass - BLACK : Amazon.com : Automotive about 2 years ago. Works really nice. Didn't want to use the 3M velcro tape on the tint.

Only problem is that during the hot or cold weather it sometimes loses its suction. I use to have it mounted where H20 Doc has it, but after catching it fall one night, I decided to put it elsewhere. That NAV screen looks really expensive to replace... Now its located in the bottom left corner where the state inspection sticker goes.

I think with the 4Runner anyplace on the window would work for the EZpass transponder. Some vehicles with the special insulated glass (Benz, BMW, GM) need to be placed in special locations.

FYI: If you have to run front plates, you can request for a license plate transponder as well..

Damn, I take things too literally. The instructions were very specific down to (and I paraphrase) "put no closer than a half inch of here and no more than 1.5 inches from here if you you don't want a ticket." Seemed kind of implausibly specific, which prompted my inquiry. I think I need to get out of science mode a little more often when I'm outside of the office.

fasttrak

I have my fasttrak wrapped on the top and bottom with that non-slide rubber people use to keep their phones from sliding off their dash. So i just throw it on the dash for tolls and it doesn't move at all. I have heard of people stealing fasttrac's if you leave them out so i wanted to be able to remove it easily. I wrapped the top and bottom so it blends in and isn't as much of an eyesore.

This link appears to be a disney pad but you can get a plain one for like $1. Its basically the stuff people put under rugs to keep them from sliding on hardwood floors.

Mine is suction cupped to the area with the black mesh and has been for sometime with no problems in the exact area shown in your photo. I've used it as far on road trips as far as VA to MD-DE-PA & NJ without error...you will be fine.

I avoided the dotted area as I believe that is metallic material. I located mine similar to barryhiram above, except mine is where his inspection sticker is located, it works fine there, I like it because it is completely out of my field of vision. however, I just noticed a few weeks ago that there is a sensor on the back of the mirror, so I am wondering if it is interfering, so I may experiment a little to see if it is affecting the auto dimming mirror.

I put it in my center console and just put it up against the window when I need it. Not sure about you guys but I got a new EZ pass device that is about 1/3rd the size of the original one.
