this weekend i plastidipped the front grille, and removed running boards. still deciding if i like the no-running boards look, but it was pretty simple.

Looks really good...did you remove the grille and wheels or just tape everything off and spray it on the truck?

X2 on this... Started with a K&N and moved over to the AFE pro-s dry for that reason.

I'd also like to add this forum is AWESOME!

Agreed!!! This forum is awesome and with the pro-s Dry, does it fit into the stock compartment, or are any mods necessary?

I have seen a few people post about this mod and the one part everyone seems to have had trouble with is getting the sleeve into the bushings...I see some said they have cut down the sleeve to make it fit better but this is what I'll be installing this afternoon -

I am not cutting the steel sleeve because I feel like the threading of the bolt will quickly chew threw the bushings...as you can see in the picture I mocked it up, using the nut and washer to press the sleeve into the bushing - once it's all connected on the Runner I will use the same method to get the 2nd bushing to push onto the sleeve and complete the install...

I can't see any reason to cut the sleeves using this method but I'm no expert by any means so please feel free to correct me guys if you think there's a better way!

With this mod, do you put the 4Runner up on a lift or jacks, or can this be done on flat ground?

Which front bumper is this and did it just bolt right in to the factory holes, or did you have to drill new ones?

Shrockworks bumper. Straight bolt up.

On the other link on extended rear links.... Can be done on the ground.

Is plasti dip still the way to go, or are there any newer products that work better now?

plasti-dip is still the rage. if you don't like the colors they offer, i've read about people plasti-dipping first, then spraypainting whatever color/texture over that so you can still have that durable, removable undercoat with a shell of paint on top. clear coat is probably smart too.

you can leave the wheels on if you want, but you'll get better coverage and probably do a better job of cleaning and taping if you remove them. the cleaner the wheels (or whatever surface you're dipping) are, the better adhesion you'll get. if i weren't so busy this weekend i would practice on my spare wheel. if you do a quick search of the term "plasti" you'll find tons of threads with photos and ideas. i'll probably end up doing all my badges, but i'm torn on whether or not i want to do my grille.

This was an easy thing to do and I think it has improved my MPG. Over the next few weeks I'll able to say for sure if it improved. I'll post a few pic.s to show those with the V6. Hope I get this right lol

Have you had any issues since doing this? I've read of a few people having some issues.

I would be careful spraying over PD with regular paint. May want to YouTube it to see how it peels off after that. PD in and of itself is pretty durable if you use enough layers. And if you need to touch it up, use a little thinner on the knick to smooth it out first, then spray over it.

Right on. I read earlier on this topic to do one can per tire. I'll probably do that and then ensure that I have enough coverage.

+/- 130 lbs. Think it's the heaviest on the market.

And your inquires on the HCF delete, you being in CA. I would look into if it will effect our emissions test ( smog test )

Last test I did, suckers plugged into OB2 for a check, and passed me. That was different.

I've read conflicting reports about whether or not the HCF delete actually does anything. Placebo effect, maybe? Wash it down with some Kool Aid?

I was very skeptical about the HCF but I did it last week and I have to say it did seem to improve the performance, small improvement but I think an improvement and it only takes a couple minutes

New headlights and put on a new bull bar with some KC offroad lights this weekend.

Looks awesome...Did you do the install yourself?

Just tapped into the existing trailer wiring for reverse lights. Attached the LED lights to existing screws. No fuse or wires leading to the battery or switches needed. Also no need to tap the wires to the actual reverse lights. The trailer hook up will still work.

How do you turn them on and off?

Was searching for a video on removing the HCF on the 6-cylinder...
(to see how it differed from removing it in the V8)
