21 MPG per the onboard system or miles traveled divided by gallons to fill? One is much more accurate than the other.
Asking because the HC delete is one of those things I've been on the fence about. Can't see the harm but having read many threads and posts about it, nor do I see much benefit according to those who have done it. If there's little to no benefit, I lean toward letting sleeping dogs lie.

I got tired of all the wires going everywhere in my ride, so I drilled a hole in the bottom of the secret compartment behind the cup holders (which I don’t use) and dropped in a $5 female cigarette lighter outlet in there.
I soldered it into the harness. I didn’t go into the glove compartment because it’s harder to reach. I thought about it for a while though.
Oddly enough, I spliced into the second outlet (that is only used for the ash tray Mod) and the always on mod didn’t work. So the second outlet must be on a different circuit than the first??
So much cleaner.

I removed mine about a month ago when I cleaned up my throttle body and MAF sensor, disconnected the battery to reset the ecu as well. I’ve noticed a bit of an increase in mpg (about 1-2mpg better) and also the throttle response is much much better. I haven’t seen any ill affects of removing mine so far, I’d recommend it.
Nice spot.. I haven't committed to anything like that yet.

Nice! Do you remember which LED strips you used? Were they battery powered, or did you plug them into your 110 in the cargo area?

I cut off the 12v plug and ran these to a power distribution block that I have in the back but it can easily be routed to the cig lighter

Just did the Carbon removal on mine about a month ago-I don’t see a difference in MPG. Was getting around 17 per gallon and now I’m at 17.6- no increase in power either I don’t think

The quicker throttle response I got was from cleaning up the throttle body and MAF sensor. You could try that. I doubt just ripping off the HC filter would provide more power. Make sure to unplug your battery for about 10-15 min to reset the ecu after everything is clean. Should notice a difference in throttle response if your TB is dirty. Cleaning the TB and MAF sensor is suppose to boost your mpg as well so who knows, removing the filter could’ve done absolutely nothing and I could be seeing a boost from that and not the removal of the filter, but it didn’t do much before anyways so I’m not worried about it.

I did clean the MAF and throttle body- I noticed they weren’t really dirty at all. The throttle body had minimal amount of carbon buildup. But I did learn how to clean both of those on this site which is awesome! I’ve learned so much here

I’m assuming your TB was clean enough to really not see a performance/mpg gain after cleaning it. Not really sure. Did you reset the ECU? I believe I remember reading some people didn’t see any change until after they disconnected the battery to reset the ECU. Just an idea for you if that’s something you might’ve skipped?
But yeah I used a write-up from here as well, without this forum I wouldn’t know anything. It’s been great learning all this stuff although sometimes it can be daunting.

Correct, I disconnected the battery for probably an hour or so (while working on other things) so it should have reset everything. But yeah, learned how to do all of it through this forum! It’s been great to do it myself and not pay someone.
Now I just want to spend money on more things for the 4Runner
For those doing the various plasti-dip mods; how well and for how long does it hold up? I've done a bunch of reading here and elsewhere and I get the impression it's not a permanent coating.
I want to do my running boards and roof rack and would like something with some texture like Line-X. But without the expense. Definitely looking for DIY.

I first did my emblems and wheel center caps a few years back and they held up fine. Since then, I've done my grill and all the side plastic paneling and rear bumper corners, and mirrors.
That being said, I think plasti-dip will work fine in areas that are not being constantly bumped or rubbed. Not sure how it will hold up on a step or roof rack. Buuuuuut, the original purpose of plasti-dip was for tool handles. So maybe if it is applied thick enough it can work.

Plasti-Dip is tough. I did my front skidplate and lower front bumper a couple of years ago and they have nicks here and there but overall, it still looks fine.
