Hey all! I figured I would post here, since the things I'll be doing will be weekend mods... and I can't start my own thread yet.

Just got an '08 4x4 Limited and I love it. However, even though I won't be doing serious off-roading in it any time soon, and probably won't even be hitting light trail/service roads until next year, I'd anxious to do SOMETHING to make it a little less soccer-mommish... heh.

The previous owner just put on new Cooper Discoverer tires on it right before selling, so I am going to have one hell of a time convincing my wife that I need new all terrain tires any time soon. Is a leveling kit going to look silly on the stock wheels/tire size? I searched a lot of pictures but was having a hard time finding ones that were with stock tires.

-One of the first things you can do is install Bilstein 5100s as a leveling kit. I bought mine online and a local shop installed them for me for cheap. Set mine to 2.5 + up front and +1.5 in the back. Really stiffens up the ride and gives it a more sporty stance. Goes from feeling like driving a whale to something more sporty.

-Install Falken WildPeak AT3/w, great AT Tire for the price / performance

-PlastiDip the front grill, mask off the toyota logo to make it look WAY better...see my truck as an example. Looks way more sporty.

- Install a roof rack

-Get rid of the Carbon filter on the intake

-Change out the H11 headlight bulbs for H9 Headlight bulbs, simple mod. See Youtube or Google for help on this

-Change out interior bulbs to LED bulbs

-Change out Reverse Lights to high power LED bulbs

Spent a couple hours today putting in an always-on USB charger and running four cables from it around the 4Runner, and putting in a phone mount to the left of the steering wheel.

I tapped into the driver seat controls fuse for the constant 12v to power a standard lighter socket that I ran into the center console, then plugged the charger directly into that. I was going to cut off the plug on the charger and directly wire it but I was worried there might be some circuitry in the plug so I just did it this way.

One goes under the steering wheel and up the A-pillar to power my phone mount on the left side. I used a USB Y-Cable to combine the USB data port from my Android Auto head unit and USB power from the new charger to one cable.

Another two go up the center console. One is just a spare, and the other goes to my Verizon access point that sits in the seat back pocket.

Then I ran a USB extension cable into the glove box so I can plug whatever cable I want into that one for the passenger or charging something else in the glove box. All the rest are USB-C cables so I figured one should be flexible.

The phone mount idea I stole from a thread here. Attached a Ram Mount ball joint to the screw hole for the A-pillar handle.

Here's my best attempt at drawing how I wired things using a random picture of a 4th gen dash. Red goes from fuse box to the 12v socket, blue is the USB charger, green is the USB extension cable to glove box, pink and light blue are USB-C cables to the center console, yellow is USB extension from head unit, purple is Y-cable, orange is USB-C cable to phone mount.

with local fires, (check Delta CA fire), I changed my cabin filter, with a furnace filter cut to size. My last was 2012.

yeah, this is currently the best one I've got. Not much of a auto photographer.

Looks great, but would really look more badass with black wheels, try plasti dipping them or hv someone photoshop black wheels on them to see if you like it

Never seen that before, but that almost makes me wish I had something I needed to mount there. seems like an elegant solution, if youre willing to delete the grab handle, and have something to cover the other hole nicely.

Im a college kid who runs a small business making these oh shit handles from my home. I do grab handles, Headrest handles, and rear hatch handles. They're cheap as hell, and they take 5 minutes to install! check them out!!

I first did my emblems and wheel center caps a few years back and they held up fine. Since then, I've done my grill and all the side plastic paneling and rear bumper corners, and mirrors.

That being said, I think plasti-dip will work fine in areas that are not being constantly bumped or rubbed. Not sure how it will hold up on a step or roof rack. Buuuuuut, the original purpose of plasti-dip was for tool handles. So maybe if it is applied thick enough it can work.

I just used a spay can truck bed liner for my running boards and it turned out awesme!

Huh, that's pretty neat. Would also work just fine with a RAM mount, so I wouldn't have to lose the handle.

I believe the black boots come only in the stock length. Their website would give you more information.
