Easy Weekend Mods

I was over on the 4th gen side of the forum, and I noticed they had a similar thread over there. I thought it was a great idea that us 5th gen owners could copycat.

Basically, lets all share some mods/accessory installs that are quick and easy to do - it would be a good thread to check out if you're bored one afternoon and feel the need to do something to the 'Runner. Lets keep it to things that don't require any specialized or expensive parts.

Here's a REAL easy one - I added some stick on convex mirrors a few weeks ago. They have vastly improved the factory mirrors and have aided immensely in navigating both on the trail and in town.

Air Dam-ectomy: It's been about a year and a half since I did this; but all it took was about an hour's work with a dremel. I think it makes a huge difference even at stock height.

All could be done in one weekend or less. LED and CAI could both be done in an evening, Cat-back in a morning. Leaving the rest of the weekend to enjoy the results and showing off to friends.

brakes would squeal every now and then after offroading a few weeks ago.. so i took them apart, cleaned it out and lubed everything up.. good as new!

I removed the plastic air dam from the front. Like most of the mods on this thread, it's mostly a cosmetic improvement (it really bothered me and I feel like it ruined the lines of the truck). It also makes access to the recovery points a lot easier.

[MENTION=7957]Tengu[/MENTION] you have a TE, right? TE's don't have the air-dam. Crawl under a stock LE or SR5 sometime and ask yourself how much fun it would be to try and access those recovery points with the truck sunk in snow or mud.

I actually step on my rear bumper, so I modded it to be safe and actually have some grip. I have a bunch of non abrasive marine grade traction tape. I made pencil rubbings of the shapes on the bumper, cleaned them up, transferred them to the tape backing (reversed of course) and cut out the shapes. The project was a pain in the ass, even with a graphic arts resume, but it came out great! Each shape is different, but thankfully one side is a mirror image of the other side.

I could be wrong but the imprints on my bumper are different I think?

I think they're all the same. But even if they are different, you can still do the mod...
