EatonKyleH's Build Thread

Any chance you could fix these photos, I'd love to see how you cut your fenders, but the links aren't working.

Also... so did you not have a body lift then? What did you have to do to the rear to stuff the 35's without a BL? ....absolutely love your rig!

Thanks man! It appears they have fixed themselves? Photobucket was being all funky I saw but it appears they are back. I looked and I no longer have them stored anywhere else but was glad to see them back up and visible today. If you still aren't seeing them let me know.

Ya I don't have a body lift. In the rear I cut the bumper back and cut out the pinch weld along the fender on both sides then welded it flat. Sorry I don't have more pictures but feel free to pm me if you have more questions.

The only time i can remember you leading is when you and I raced up the side of that ****ing mountain Pike's Peak style! Then waited for everyone else for a long time down on the other side. :trophy:

Haha! Dude that was such a blast and an awesome weekend. Are you possibly going to make it up around here/the jambo this year? Would love to get together and see you guys for whatever the occasion may be!

In other news. My son turned 11 on Thursday and we went on a little camping trip and ran the trail "China Wall" nearish Colorado Springs. Had a great time! We met a few groups of cool dudes and some of them spotted me up the optional wall while another guy "he's in the 5th gen section on here I think???" Took pictures of me. Anyway hope I can figure out who you are on here and thanks for everyone being so welcoming!
The two of us spent the night near another large group (an 80 series LC, 1st gen Tacoma, and a couple jeeps). They also were super kind and we really enjoyed hanging out. Thanks for hooking my son up with the twinkies!

Unfortunately no pictures unless I can find the dudes around here. Too busy driving, cooking, teaching dude stuff. But had a great time'

Sweet! Glad you found me on here and thanks for the pictures!

Bummed I didn't make the first line with the rear bumper dragging in the dirt but still glad to have run into you guys and at least got up the other way safely with your buddies spotting. Really appreciated it and was good meeting you guys.

Both years we've had at the Jamboree have been awesome! And yeah thats the plan, I'm doing my best to be on the trails this fall in another toyota. Been looking high and low for my next truck, I am having trouble sleeping at night i'm so excited. lol

Duuuuddee! Awesome news! I'm stoked to see what you decide to buy/build next. But honestly more excitited to have all the crew around for another awesome time. Also congrats again to you and Megan, you guys make a great couple.

Bring Matt up again too! Or your brother..... I've been working on my southern drawl.

EatonKyleH are you still on stock 4.30's? ...how's that going for you?

Well my truck is a 5 speed manual transmission and like most of those it actually has 4.10 gears. But the supercharger and lower gearing in the manual transmission make driving with the 35s and heavy build sooommmeeewwhhaattt tolerable. But I draw somewhat out like that because while I could live with it.... it really still sucks a big one. I've driven it on 10+ hour road trips on the interstate like it's setup now. When it's flat it's ok but 5th gear is only good for 75mph or higher and then again only flat or downhill. But with ANY grade uphill it's worthless. I wind up in 3rd gear screaming to pull up the high mountain passes around here alll thhheee tiiimmee.

Honestly I couldn't imagine driving a heavy built rig on 35s on stock gears with an auto and/or not supercharged.... at least around here in the mountains. Mine isn't my daily driver and I have a crawl box to make it a lot nicer off road so I could live with it as part of "driving my toy" but honestly it sucks so much I'm hardly willing to live with it long.

I plan to regear very soon. Just trying to decide between 4.88s and 5.29s. 5.29s would be pretty dang low for a manual trans like mine but I've been considering a jump in tire size to 37s and am thinking about leaving that door more open with the 5.29 choice. I also usually have either my roof tent on or my trailer in tow so my highway speed is usually not very fast.

Anyway hope my rambling as helped somewhat. If you are considering running 35s on stock gears.... I say do it... expect it to suck... expect to regear.

Mine is manual tranny on 4.1 without a rear locker. So I'm gonna swap in a 4.3 axle with locker from an automatic so that should help reduce the speed a bit, kill 2 birds with one stone. But I'm not planning to run huge tires, 32" maybe 33". The only tricky part will be swapping the front diff to 4.3 to match.

I'm on 33.5's with stock 4.30 in an auto. It's not fun. To pull any grades it's 2nd gear rapping at 3500RPM at 55MPH. The re-gear is gonna come as soon as possible. I'm having the same debate between 4.88 and 5.29. I've been playing with some gear calculators and trying to get a better idea of what would work best. It's gonna be a hard decision to make.

That should be a fine idea for sticking with 32-33 tires.

Looking through your thread again because it's awesome- I found the absolute answer to your gearing:

It's a sign.

Oh dear lord! Wow I'm amazed you picked that out! I never noticed that....
But it appears my truck is trying to talk to me through the radio!
Thank you for helping guide me through the fog and connect us...That we may understand without words.
You are the Miss Cleo of the 4runner world.

Same here. Lots of compromises in the choice and one I don't want to have to make again if I decide to change tire sizes/etc. Best of luck!

Yeah I'm going through the same tough choices right now, I've been searching through every thread and bugging everybody with the same questions haha. I bought an Elocker off CL that looked damn near brand new, but of course once I installed it and started driving it I found out very quickly that the pinion bearing is really bad. After weighing the options and cost of parts and labor it just makes more sense to regear the whole truck rather than waste money fixing the stock 4.10 elocker.

I'm so torn between 4.56 & 4.88s for my automatic! I will no doubt go S/C in the next year, so I'm leaning towards 4.56 but my truck is already getting heavy and although I'm putting on 33's/34's soon, I could easily see myself going to 35's and LT in the next year or two as well. Such an expensive decision to make when I've barely wheeled my truck more than a few times, but I just have no choice now with that damn pinion bearing.

P.S. ...how do you get the flares off without breaking the clips? Or do you just break them and order new ones?

I've been doing the same calculations! with 4.88 on 34's I'd be looking at 2,700rpm to hit 80mph and 2,400 just to cruise at 70mph. That 70mph number is the one that kills me, I'm getting like 20mpg on the highway (straight and flat) right now with my 4.1/265's

I replaced the clips with bolts on the flare side and then put them through the existing holes and nuts inside the fender well. A couple guys here have done it and it works really well. The flares are a lot more secure that way if you wind up cutting them and removing the inner fender liners and whatnot.
Also nice because then you can just unbolt them and never use plastic clips again.

Well..... I suspect a change is acomin'

If you are interested in purchasing a:

2000/Manual/Elocked/Long Travel/Supercharged/Dual Cased/Armored/35" tire rollin/super expo/4Runnin machine

My 4runner is for sale.

I will make an add with updated/quality pictures and information soon-ish (probably near the end of the summer when I have more time)

If you however would like to chat about it/check it out or know someone interested in it... feel free to PM me.

It will likely come equipped with nearly everything on it... from the roof rack, winch, dual ARB air compressor, to the fridge...etc.

Price will likely be in the 15k-ish range.

I may part it out partially and/or keep some of the gear by the time an add is made.... but would sell it as is at the moment. Price may be also more or less depending.

I've found myself driving my Tundra nearly everywhere and have found the truck bed layout to suit my families needs better. I've been leaning toward building it mildly (compared to my 4Runner).

I will update with a link to an add when I make one.

I've really enjoyed building this beast of a truck and the community here! It has lead me to make many new and lasting friendships and I still plan to be around the Toyota scene. I just find myself rarely needing such a high level of build and a pickup being handier for my needs.

Right on man. Sorry to see all the hard work looking to get sold but I may be in the same boat here sooner than later. My new work vehicle is a crew cab 17 f150 fx4 sport loaded. With looking to get a camper in the future and owning a home, a full size truck to mildly build up seems like it would get more use than the 4runner these days.

I'm the same as you where I love the 4runner, love driving it and what I have done to it and built it for, but life changes and so do our needs.

If you end up selling it, I wish you the best. I may be not far behind you.

Ya its a bummer for sure.... I love this 4runner and I've been building it in the "I'm keeping it forever" fashion for a long time now because I thought I would be.

But like you've also noticed... the pickup has also become a better multitasker for our needs. With a few changes I think it would also handle most of the wheeling I like to do just with some exceptions I could learn to be ok with.

I could keep it... but I really just don't like having valuable things that aren't getting used like and as often as they should be.

Someone will sure appreciate the level of build this rig is. Parting it would honestly kinda bum me out. I'd love to see a good couple pick this thing up and use it. I personally think this rig is "greater than the sum of its parts" because of the thought and level of execution. It's a stand out truck.

Best of luck with your decision man and I really appreciate the kind words. Hope your family is doing great and good luck with the home search!

Bummed to see that post! I have to support your decision though, it definitely sounds like the truck is better suited for your needs.

Best of luck with the sale, I'll be following! Really hoping to see it go somewhere that it'll be taken care of.

Thanks Todd!

Right there with you in all aspects. We actually bought our first home at the beginning of 2016 but upgrades, landscaping, and renovation, a truck definitely makes things easier.

Yes come to the dark side....:vader:

Did the same thing a couple years ago and never regretted it. I love my Tundra (assuming you have a DC) and it just rides so much nicer. Plus the extra interior room and bed has been a game changer as the family vehicle. I have no doubt you'll get your asking price for your rig, you couldn't build one as nice for that price.
