Thanks XenonDepot, I really like the HID, and the install was really easy

But now I need to adjust the beam pattern lower, I've been getting high beamed a few times now.

I discovered that the beam pattern must have been higher than normal when I was rotating the tires, I upgraded my tires to 265/70-17s recently, and the jack stand that I used when I still have dunlops can't lift it high enough so I could remove the tires, I had to use some lumber. I knew it would get higher but I didn't expect it to be that high.

I really want to be able to use the steering wheel controls, as well as the illumination or dimmer feature. If you have any tips on this or any wiring diagrams I would be thrilled!

I ordered my Eclipse from Crutchfield and they sent me a DDIN mounting kit but I'm not very happy with it because there is a huge gap on either side. I'm hoping that I can order the kit from Scosche (TA2079B) or from my dealership that will fit properly.

Nice, now all you need is some matching HIDs for the fogs. HID/Halogen doesn't really go together.. :bigok:

I've been busy lately at work and at the only time I had, I used it to replace the front rotors and pads and performed the 60K maintenance (oil/filter, sparks, air filters).

I'm not sure if we have the same kit to connect the steering wheel control but i'll scan the instructions/wiring diagram here sometime.

I'm thinking of getting the yellow hid to replace the fogs but I will get it when I have the time to install it, hopefully soon :happy bda

I just reread the first part of your post and realized that you mentioned a "pac swi-ecl2" which I didn't think about until I read that it was for the steering controls to work. Looks like I'll just have to order one of those and see how it works, I did find a wiring diagram for illumination so we'll see how that goes. Did you locate the VSS/speed wires or did you just leave those disconnected?

Also, I talked to a dealership and they said that the only part they could order for the Urban Runner radio piece was $300 (!!) which I told them was insane because it is just a plastic piece, but the guy said that's the only part he could find in the system. I think I'm going to order the TA2079B from Scosche and see how it fits.

eclipse install

Hey

I did this whole install and I ordered the factory bezel from my Toyota dealer. I got the avn2210 from Crutchfield for 399.00 included ship and tax (close out). I could not pass it up. The dealer has to call the factory to get the part #. They will be reluctant but this is what you have to do since they didn't sell that many of them new. There are a few part# on this site but there wrong, I thing the last digit was off by two, but I have the part # at home on my bill. The cost was $81.00.

I did not hook up the speed sensor wire either.

I also used the PAC steering wheel controls and they work great but the plug on the eclipse with the Brown and Brown/white wires where backwards from the factory. This took awhile to figure out. Finally did and works great. Then I got the PAC harness adapter for the jbl. This was the second one I went through, first one was crap and it was not a PAC or Scoshe product, had no gain and when you turned up the gain there was a hiss even when the radio was off, plus the volume was low. The PAC handled all of that and now works perfect.

Also the Urban Runner has a different dash panel, for it to fit right you have to cut away part of the edge at the top of the climate control panel. Like trim it down 3/4 of the way. Granted its only 3/8 of an inch anyway.

It was a real Bitc* to get it to factory specs and works properly but well worth it.

Hi Clem18, could you post some night shots of the beam pattern. I know you have been asked before and the seller posted some, but I would like to see yours. Also, did you use the philips bulbs? I'm thinking of getting some HID lights, and not the ones from GOTHID. The guys that made there purchase from there don't sound too happy. Thanks

That is very helpful, thanks so much! I love when you find someone on a forum that knows the exact answers you're looking for. I'm not sure if I want to pay $120 for a dash piece so I'm going to order the Scosche TA2079B and hope that it works well (it's about $30 with shipping I think, maybe a little more). If it doesn't though I may just have to get the Toyota piece and modify it like you said.

I managed to install this system with help from my friend but I am relatively unfamiliar with some of the things you said. I'm a newb when it comes to car stereos!! What exactly did you install with the Eclipse, do you have a single "PAC" that converts to the JBL audio system and handles the steering wheel controls? Or did you individually splice those into a PAC, and if so which model did you use? I'm guessing that if the plug is backwards I will have to do some splicing but I want to have an idea of what to expect before I go through the tedious process that is required to get at the radio. I'm definitely a bit jealous of my friends w/ GMC/Chevy SUVs - they can literally pull off the dash and they have complete access to the stereo.

Let me clear it up!!

Sorry I write like i talk,

I used two different PAC adapter. One for the steering wheel controls. I was saying, that the plug on the the Eclipse for steering controls and speed sensor there are four wires. The two white once you won't use. The brown ones are the steering controls and on mine the brown and brown/white wires were backwards in the plug for the radio.(heads up). Meaning, On the pig tail from the Eclipse just remember that the wires are backward. Out of the PAC steering control adapter you just connect a few wires to the fact main plug wires#6,7,8 .I spliced these back off the plug a couple of inches. DO NOT CUT OFF YOUR FACT. PLUGS (Its easier than it sounds)

The PAC adapter I used for The JBL system was a plug and play (no cutting) , you use the same pwr and ground for the steering control adptr as well. Do you have the Factory wiring Diagram? Theres a site that has the plug lay out and which wires are which. You need this, I have the site at work. I will get you all the model #'s of which PAC product I used and put them up Tues.

I heard that PAC has a new dash kit for T4r, and it suppose to be the same plastic look and feel as the factory. I will chk on that too.
I still have all the instruction for these adapters that I can fax you or I can scan them down.

I have been slammed with work so haven't had a chance to follow up with you. Did you find the exact model number of the PAC you used for steering wheel controls? So what you are saying is that you spliced from the factory steering wheel controls into the PAC unit but when you connect the PAC unit to the Eclipse, I should switch the brown and brown/white wires, or just make sure they are in the right place? If you have a wiring diagram I would be so grateful to see it!

I have yet to order the sleeve from Scosche but I'm going to do that soon. I might call Crutchfield first just to see if they have it.

I just ordered the AVN2210p myself (Crutchfield closeout). I was also under the impression that I didn't need the PAC adapter for the streering wheel controls. I called Crutchfield and I guess this issue has come up numerous times (probably some of you guys). They explained that they believed it should work, but that Eclipse hadn't provided them with a solid answer. I got the number for Eclipse and gave them a call. They confirmed that I could just splice into the wires for the steering wheel controls and it should work. Unfortunatley, they couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me what those wires were. I don't have the JBL system, so I don't know if its the same for everyone. I'm going to try and find out from the dealership. I'll let you know how I make out.

To those of you who are thinking of getting the eclipse avn-2210p, don't bother. To those who just got it, don't update using tomtom home!!!

Here is what I'm experiencing right now.

It was working fine until a few weeks ago when I decided to update the software using tomtom home. After the update, I put it back in the 4runner and it started loop from on to off after it shows the welcome screen. I then looked at the content of the sd card and discovered that two files in the US and Canada maps are corrupted. I tried loading the back-up using tomtom home but it's showing an error message.

I haven't been checking the this site lately but now I see that there are problems about software compatibility between eclipse and tomtom according to the urban runner owners who did the update.

I tried copying the backup content to a new sd card and the backup US map but no luck. it's not getting recognized by the tomtom portable.

Finally gave up and called tomtom and ofcourse they don't want to have anything to do with it. Told me to call eclipse but gave me a wrong number. I called them again and still gave me a wrong number. Only after the third and some angry tone that they decided to check the number and only then that they gave me a correct number.

But when I called eclipse, I was passed from technical support to customer rep and then back to technical support that told me to send it back for repair and finally back to customer rep on how to send it back. The customer rep told me to check eclipse.com and file a repair request. I went to the site only to find out that it's not the correct site, I then went to eclipse nav website but could not find where to file for repair. Called eclipse again only to be told 'oopss sorry' it should be eclipsediamondservice.com WTF! :bash:

After creating a repair request, they sent me the box. They received it 3 days ago and after calling them this morning, told it takes them a week to fix before they usually send it back. Just nice!!

Since I could see what eclipse model is being sent for repair in the eclipse repair website, I decided to check out how many avn2210p are being repaired.

From repair # ending in 6861 to 6880 there are 10 request for avn2210p, I really should have researched more before I got this!!
