Electrical help - exterior ambient air temp sensor wire

Anyone know where the other end of this exterior air temp sensor wire runs under the dash? On my '02 SE it's the harness plug behind the grill, in front of the radiator, down near the driver's side foglight in pic below. This is where the air temp sensor (Thermistor cooler) plugs in. Looks like it runs on same harness as the fog lights and turn signal lights. I think the color of the wires to this plug are black with blue stripe and gray. checked the wiring diagram in the service manual but must have missed it.

Well I managed to trace the wires. Oh man was that hard. So many wires in the internal harness are black with a blue stripe. I ended up pulling the dash out completely to trace it. Turns out both the outside temp wires come into the vehicle near the gas pedal. I disconnected the large gray plug and found that both pins for the grey wire and black wire with blue stripe are missing. Makes sense since no 3rd gen 4Runner came with factory installed ambient temperature sensors-as far as I know. Makes me wonder why. My guess is they decided to use the same outside accessory harness as the Hilux surf, which is the same vehicle in almost every way. I marked in the photos where the plug wires would be as well as the pins. I ended up heat shrinking the wires to new wires going to my upper console field monitor, bypassing the missing plug pins. I did t waste my time at least in pulling the dash, made it super easy to replace the electric areal antenna, it had a broken gear.

Limiteds with the auto climate control have and use the external temp sensor wires. The wires are there in the harness on the driver's fender, but not on the dash for the base/SR5 models. Well, at least on the 99/00 years. The plug for the sensor is taped up below the headlights / behind the turn signal.

I used it for the external temp sensor wires for my JDM Field Monitor (plugs into the JDM sensor with only minor mods). I pinned up the two wires on the dash side of the harness using wires from my parts truck harness.

Charlie - Do you happen to have a part number for your sensor which worked with your JDM head unit, I too have one and would like to get the right sensor for it.
I did buy one previously, but it doesn’t seem to work, which leads me to believe it must be more specific!
Any help is appreciated!

It should be part #83482-35010 for the FMU ambient temp sensor.

Hey guys...I have a related question, does any one know what type/PartNumber of male plug that is in the OP so I can order that from my local dealer and connected in my temp sensor? or what are the model years it is on so that I can go to the junk year and clip that plug with pig tails?

like a 2000 2WD SR5 just gotta added to my local junk yard, would i have luck finding it off that?

Thanks Phattyduck! unfortunatly out at the junk yard there was either a lot of front end damage, or super hack jobs on the harnesses. On one of the for sale cars, I do think I saw the same connector on a Sienna, and it had a number on it of 11070. Too bad I couldnt take that connector. Some google searching the full part number might be 90980-11070...this looks like the right part, does it look like the correct connector to yall?

I really appreciate the photos, I ordered the 11070 connecter from my dealer see if it works out.

BTW look at this disaster I saw while at the junk yard, haha: Is that socket a strength multiplier?

Having fun in the Camry section of the yard? Those dogbone mounts aren't very expensive... wow, somebody was cheaping out.

I am sure that socket is almost as much as the dogbone, My junk yard has the Van and SUV together, so i was looking in the Siennas for the connector, just in case, ha

Not a bad plan - I bet any Toyota from that era used the same connector for the external temp sensor. Just look for one with auto AC. (XLE trims of cars, Limited trims on SUV/Trucks)

I got the 90980-11070 from my dealer, and it is the right size and shape, but it was was missing one of the keyways on the side that has 2 keyways, so on the temp sensor i shaved off the bottom corner keyway and it wall connected up, not to install it!!

On the sensor connect, I noticed the part number of 11254, so 90980-11254, so does anyone know of a way to look up the Female connector if you know the male part number, and vise versa?

Looks like my temp sensor is a different temp sensor (i need one to work with my hilux FMU). Looks like the 90980-11070 is an exact match for the female plug in the OPs post. but it looks like 90980-11255 would be the correct connector for my sensor and mine is 90980-11254...Female connector just Plus one of the male connector?
