As the title says I am about to dive into an Elocker retro fit on my 2000 SR5. I have read several threads on different sites including the sanora steel writeup. My question is I hace seen a couple that recomend reliefing the back of the housing for more room and some that do not mention it at all. Any thoughts from those that did not ? Thanks all and love the site, GREAT source of info

Are you swapping the entire axel or just the e-locker housing?

I would like to swap the 98 Elocker 3rd member into a non locking 98 complete rear end that I have in the garage. Then just swap it into my 2000.

I would keep your install as simple as possible. No need to complicate things if you don't have to... Although how much room do you actually gain by relieving it?...

What are your concerns with space?...

I think the best thing to do is update/upgrade your rear links to adjust for the rear lift depending on how high you go in the rear

I didn't remove any metal in mine. Fit like a glove. Although what I do recommend is the studless mod since the elocker housing and the non elocker housing are different. I picked up all the parts by going to McMaster and using a pirate 4x4 writeup.

It's still sitting in the garage but I have a leak on my retrofitted axle because one of my studs pulled.

Thanks guys. I will deff check out the thread-less mod on pirate. I already have the studs from Camelback but if I can avoid a possible problem I would like too.
