Elocker wiring options help

I have a 97 Limited w/factory elocker that I'm thinking about swapping the rear and front diffs over to my 97 SR5. My question is....would it be worth it to get the elocker factory wiring and ecu, etc. out of the Limited, or just wire it up with one of the available wiring kits? I'm keeping it a running, driving vehicle just sans the elocker, so I want to keep the hackery to a minimum. Thanks.

Seem like this pops up about every week or so.

Check and see if your rig has the plugs for the locker switch and 4x4 ECU. If you do grab them and wiring up is a snap - Retrofit Electric Locker

If you don't have the plugs do what Scramble said.

I have the Low Range kit right now. It works but is no the greatest. I have a friend working on a wiring harness for the locker that will include indicators for unlocked/ moving/ locked. That is the biggest issue with using aftermarket harnesses. If he gets it worked out I will be selling my Low Range kit.

Lot's have gone back and forth on this. I built my own back in my 97 4Runner exactly as you described. Was only like 50-60 for me to do it myself. I just did it for my father for 13.00 with out the relay's & indicators. So either way works great.

Look to see as rkntoy said, a lot of vehicles have the ability for it and just need a few extra pieces put in..

I did this and I ended up pulling the the wiring harness off of my donor car and putting it on mine. It took me about and hour to do it on both cars and you get to retain the oem look as well as the working light on your cluster.

My truck is a base model, wasn't pre-wired & had no dash indicator so the LROR kit was a no brainer. I found the LROR harness for sale here in the classifieds for $100. The guy sold his truck before doing the e-locker conversion.

I have a 99 Limited e-locked parts truck that I picked up a few weeks ago, maybe someday I'll convert the 3RZ to a more factory look.

I have given up trying to figure out what years and configurations are pre-wired. You have to look. I have a 1999 base model and mine was prewired.

Here is a video of me doing it with Timmy the toolman, pretty close function to OEM, my dash blinks "RR lock" when its trying to engage and then it stays solid when its engaged.

Only thing needed here though, is your OEM locker switch that is in your dash, two OEM pin wires, some 6 conductor trailer wire, OEM ECU and pigtails for the switch, ECU, and pigtail that plugs into the elocker itself.
