Ending one chapter, Starting the next one...

Well, as my 4runner was getting up there in miles, and getting older, i decided i wanted something i could keep for another 15 years, especially because my dad wants to DD in winter for the next few years. So i just sold my 4runner today, its still a good and strong truck, i just didnt see it making it another 15 years, and i really didnt seeing something i could afford around me that would fit my budget and requirements.

I wanted a taco, but they are way too expensive, so that left me back with what i started with, a 4runner. And i found one, 1999 3.4l V6 4x4 5 Speed in Phoenix AZ and not a spot of rust anywhere, and while i was on vacation in january i bought it!

I am so sad my 97 is gone, but i am towing my 99 home in 3 weeks, so stay tuned.

Pic of the new one:

Just curious...how many miles were on your 97'? And how many are on your new to you 99'?

That's sure clean looking for a 99'...never find anything that nice up here in the rust belt!

Hope you enjoy your new Toy...

Looks really nice John! Grey interior from the looks of it, does it have a sunroof? Did you snag your 906's out of the '97 before you sent it away?

Congrats on the new purchase. Like the others, would like to hear more stats and see more pics of the new purchase.

I love hearing stories like this - 3rd gen T4R breaks down/gets in an accident/dies, etc... and the first thing you do is get a "new" 3rd generation again! Awesome!

Thanks everyone i really like the new truck, i drove it around for a few after i bought it. Unfortunatley i was unable to swap out the 906 coils, or take my 01 tailights, but i did grab my husky liner from the rear which is probably the most important one.

The specs and details on the new truck.
Picked it up for $2750 after some rough negotiating, it had a CEL and the clutch was beyond shot. It was keyed on the passenger side, so in time i will replace the panels and get the quarter panel redone. It unfortunatley has the blueish gray interior, and it does have a sunroof, but it was an aftermarket sunroof, which was installed almost immediately after it was purchased which was weird. It has 212k miles on it, and the interior was a little dirty when i got it but i cleaned it up a little. I Bought a Clutch and flywheel kit off ebay from Gripforce clutches, and installed it. Planning on changing the coolant and rest of the fluids. The previous owners of the truck were pretty bad at driving stick considering it is the 2nd clutch this truck had replaced, the hole in the carpet under where the left foot sat from riding the clutch, AND the clutch return spring is worn out. Also the headliner is is shot, and considering its an aftermarket sunroof i have to pull it and redo this actual headliner, instead of just getting one from a junk truck at work.

It would have been stupid for me to buy anything but a 4Runner/Taco, i know it so well at this point, my budget didn't allow for an 80's Defender, and i didnt want anything newer due to the lack of manual transmission.

Nice find. A little TLC and that Runner will be back to good as new in no time. I am really wanting a 5Speed, but I haven't even seen one for sale within driving distance of my house!

The 1999 looks good. Good idea on purchasing in Arizona. No need to deal with rust. I would've taken a look at rusty but it was a bit too far and not enough time.

I was only buying a 5 speed, if I didn't find any I would pick a different vehicle or wait longer.

Arizona was ideal considering I have a bunch of family there and it was no issue storing a vehicle there.

Bryan W, I wouldn't say it's a build, as I have an offroad vehicle already and I need to mod that. But it will get another OME lift and probably sitting on 245/75's (31's and better mpg), I do want 5 stars or if I can find a set of those Koenig wheels used. Gonna do 35% tint on the front, and registering it in AZ.

Screw it, this is the build thread for this truck. Still havent even got the truck home yet, and i have already started getting parts for it.

Found on AZ CL a set of 4 5 star rims with Goodyear Wrangler tires, it was on a parting out truck and i was able to score them for $150, my uncle picked them up for me and says they are in great shape.

I have some other stuff i have i just forgot as of this point in time lol

Yeah, luck and some mechanical knowledge always helps.

Thanks, right now I am thinking OME 881/906 lift with decent struts and cheap shocks in the back, doing the LBJ's and putting my 245/75/R16 Hankook Dynapros on it. A little further on it will get 01+ tails and clear corners. Hoping for a sport hood, the better SR5 flares, and painted bumpers. Gonna redo the headliner when it gets here. No supercharger or any of that stuff, I run regular gas. 35% on the front windows too.

I hope you're ready for a very stiff ride.
