For anyone following my build you know I just finished up the 3rd Section of the WABDR from Ellensburg to Cashmere. On one of the turns from north to south we encountered two local enduro riders heading our way. I quickly reacted and pulled over as far right as I could, laid on the Hella's and he ended up laying his bike down. His bike hit my drivers side tire head on and the corner of the Shrockworks bumper. So I now have some alignment/front suspension damage I'll be working on it tomorrow. I'll also replace the LBJ as the integrity is very suspect after that impact.
It was only his third time out. He just took the lead. A more experienced driver would not have laid the bike down but he made the best decision he could at the time, not knowing what I was going to do. If he hit my bumper it would have been lights out for him.
It was not his turn to die yesterday. I cleaned and bandaged him up. The only thing he kept saying other than "thank you" to me over and over again, was "Don't tell Amanda" "She'll never let me ride." (his girl friend). They were surprised at how we cared more for him than anything else. I didn't even look at my rig until we were ready to leave. He said other guys would be pissed at what happened.
So all is well. No broken bones, his helmet saved him for sure and me reacting as quickly as I did, saved him and minimized the damage I could have sustained. The plan is to finish up the final three sections this week. Spend tonight in Leavenworth with my wife and tomorrow repairing everything.
