Engine cranks 3 times too long

Even though my 4runner is not effected by this, I still think it is fuel related, or it plays a big part in it. With one of the previous posters saying it was the pump, I believe it. I had one go bad on my Bronco, but hard cranks were present when cold but more prevalent when hot.

Other things to check in the SFI system:
EFI Main Relay - these things go bad on Hondas quite often (90s models that is)
ECT sensor
Circuit Opening Relay - no clue on this one

If I win the powerball this Friday, I will. LOL.

This hard starting for y'all is about as much of a PITA as the non shifting 2nd solenoid is for me until the coolant reaches 130 degrees, which I hope to fix by replacing the solenoid in the Fall.
 
any updates? i'm having the exact same problem...it'll start perfectly when it's cold, but once it's hot, the car cranks too long or sometimes even too short....
 
Another one to think about is the EVAP solenoid. I helped a friend replace his on his Yukon due to the fact that the solenoid was closed shut. Granted it is Delphi parts quality, so that should say it all.
 
Id be willing to throw down $50.

If the fuel pump fixes your problem, great. If not, bummer. Then I'll at least know. ;)

... But if you go and spend it all on crack I'll be pissed off!! :boink:
 
i wonder if the dealership would know?? it's kinda strange how this vehicle has been out for over 10+ years and no one has figured out the starter/cranking problem yet....
 
This thread will end one day with- "Wow I replaced the fuel pump and it fixed the long start issue. Thanks!"

Run the tank near empty, drop the ***** and throw the new pump in! Problem solved. I got 5 on it!
 
I am going to change the fuel pump, when put the 2UZ in.

On a side note. The Sequoia uses a Big Azz resister pack in line that the 4runner doesn't.

Jon I think you're right on this one. It makes sense....

The fact that it doesn't start right up when sitting makes me think the system is not pressurized. It will start up quick if its been started recently, and fuel is in the rail ready for injection.

My issue is just the opposite. It can sit for weeks and it'll fire right up. I can drive it (till the engine is hot), turn it off, wait 10 min to 2 hours and it'll hard start. Again, when hot I will crank it a couple of seconds, wait 5-10 sec and crank again and it'll fire right up.

I've been too busy to even think about this issue.
 
I have the opposite issue, extended crank on cold start, also had it from day one on a brand new 2007 FJ Cruiser I bought. Starts fine when warm.

Ethanol is know to have problems with cold starts, as well as other problems that it was supposed to correct, namely reduce smog which we now know it doesn't and in fact does just the opposite. We have our elected officials to thank.

i don't think it is the fuel pump. I think it's more to do with a faulty sensor which is getting false/inaccurate readings due to engine heat. Like i said in my previous post, my car starts fine in the morning (engine cold), and only gives me grief when i try to start it after the engine has warmed up.
