Engine light Hepl!!!!

Hi everyone

Newbbie here. I have a 95 4runner sr5 v6 California emmision. I did not have this problem before until i replaced the OEM catalytic converter with an after market part 2 weeks ago. now the engine light come on and stay for about 40 to 50 miles than go off. I think the guy at auto shop sold me the wrong catalytic? anyone have any ideal? Thanks!:

Was the new cat conv and exact aftermarket replacement? a genuine Toyota replacement? were the O2 sensors hooked up, and correctly?
When the engine light comes on, what codes does it generate?

It's an exact aftermarket replacement. I did not unhook the o2 sensors all. Today I will take it to autozone have them read and find out what codes it generate.

i have a the same cali model with the same problem. autozone is a waste of time, i'll tell you how to code it yourself.

pop the hood and go to the fuse box, on the side nearest the engine theres a gray box aprox. 1" x 2" that says diagnosis. flip open the cover and stick a jumper wire between terminals Te1 and e1. the jumper can be a few inches of wire with the ends stripped, or my favorite is half of a paperclip bent to plug perfectly into those terminals. now after the jumper is in go turn your ignition to on but do not start car. count the times the engine light will blink.example: blink-blink.. 2 second pause.. blink-blink-blink-blink-blink is a code 25 which is air/fuel ratio lean malfunction.

when your done jus throw the jumper in your glovebox for future use and let us know what code came up, i have the code book and can let you know what it says. mine was bouncing between code 25, 26. i ran some seafoam and adjusted the timing to 13 degrees (stock calls for ten) and the codes stopped. and havent come back. (dtw u need the jumper to do the timing too, so keep it handy

I went back to the auto shop an explained to them what going on. They re-ordered a California emmision catalytic. I will update after I put it on. Thanks eveyone.

changed out the catalytic con- with the new Cali- emmision and ran good for 2 days then the light came back on. I did the code tested and got code 25. I think i am going to do what Run4yota did. Hope this will fix the problem. thanks everyone

all good after Seafoam and put new o2 sensor.
