Engine Rebuild Cost

I've come to the conclusion that my 3.slow engine is in need of a rebuild. It runs okay but is utterly lacking in power. Little old ladies pass me on the highway. So to that end I'm considering buying this kit...

I've seen several threads here pointing to those guys & the price seems pretty reasonable. Although I rebuilt an engine with my Father when I was a teenager, I'm not planning to do the work my self. Mainly because I don't have a garage anymore but also because I'd like the engine to actually work after its back together.

What I was wondering is, does anyone have an idea how much I should expect to pay a mechanic to do the rebuild?

There's too many variables to give a realistic estimate over the web.
Also, unless you find the right place, no shop is going to supply much of a warranty unless they supply the parts.

Also, who is pulling/reinstalling the engine, you or the shop, that's a big chunk of $.

Well I'd be interested in a mechanic installing the parts in that link. Perhaps a better question might be... how many hours might that take? I realize mechanics charge different rates.

Hadn't considered the warranty issue. Always seem to own old used stuff, haven't had much experience with them.

Again, hard to answer.
Does the block need work ? (boring the cylinders, etc)
Does the heads need worK ? or are you installing new, built heads.
Rebuilding an engine is way more than just installing new parts.
Have you looked into a remanufactured engine?

Yes I've looked at crate/rebuilt engines. They seem to range from $1300-2000.

What I'm hoping here is that someone might give me a rough ball park figure on how much a rebuild might cost as opposed to replacing the engine. I don't want to proceed with either option until I have a clue what I'm getting into cost wise.

Any non-do-it-your-self-types out there recall what you spent having your engine rebuilt?
