Never had a problem doing a 50/50 simple green in a windex style spray bottle.
On a slightly warm engine, mist everything, avoid battery, alternator, and other electrical plugs, etc as much as possible, wait about 5 minutes.
Power wash with a lighter nozzle, then just leave hood open to dry for a while.
I remove the engine cover and other easy to remove plastics and do these outside of the truck.

I do the same as pDubs. Simple green in a spray bottle.
Although a long time ago I was advised to start the engine before rinsing, so that there would be no issues starting with a soaked engine bay afterward. I doubt this is required with modern engines with sealed coil packs, but I still do it anyway, and I've never had a problem. The radiator fan really moves a lot of air around and certainly helps with the drying.

On a recent 5th gen, I would do the above on a warm engine, keep it running (don't stick your hand or tools in there!) and if the pressure washer (fan setting) nets a clean enough result, spray some trim dressing (I use 303 Aerospace), close the hood, and turn off the engine after 2 minutes post-water. If the engine stumbles, QUIT SPRAYING THAT AREA!
After 15-30 minutes, most of the water will have evaporated, and use a rag/tire wash mitt (dry) and mop up the puddles and make the black trim look nice with leftover dressing.

Not sure on every truck but I put a towel or something in the air intake just to prevent any problems

I use the purple version of Simple Green, because it's supposed to be safe for aluminum.
