Entune Monthly Charges

I carefully decided whether to wait for the 2014 or go with 2013 and remember reading about Entune coming standard on all 2014 versions.

I still don't understand why Toyota would get rid of projector headlights and LED tail lights only to bring them back as "new" features for 2014. :rant: If T had brought back the Torsen locking center diff (like in all the 4WD 4th gen models) rather than part time always locked 4WD and/or the automatic climate control which aren't available on Trail Edition (only Limited), I would have held out for the 2014. But they didn't. So I went with 2013. This weird marketing track record leads me to think T might pull a fast one on us 3-4 years down the road concerning Entune.

My local region is Gulf States which sells very few TE in the first place but I did manage to find one with Entune and one without. Both had KDSS.

If they never got rid of them, what would Toyota have to upgrade on the 2014 model, lol. I think it just a strategy to get some people to want to upgrade to the mid-cycle refresh.

But anyways, I think you made a wise choice, you certainly CANNOT go wrong with a 2013 TE, especially with KDSS :naughty: Congrats!

I know there was speculation in the past on charges for Entune services after the first three (free) years.

Was at the dealership this past Monday helping my cousin buy a Camry
(Toyota of Escondido - third purchase so far and haven't been let down yet)

Anyway, we checked out the Entune system in the Camry and asked the Fleet manager about the services. He said that Toyota is still debating, though it looks like they will be charging 2 separate service fees:

1. $5 for internet services such as Pandora, weather etc.
2. Separate charge, another $5 for the live traffice update

My jaw dropped when he mentioned those prices :jaw drop: and we opted out of the Entune package. Sadly, that eliminates the smart key (push start) and sunroof. Though it was not worth the 2200 and the monthly fees.
$10 a month for something you can get on your phone!

Not sure how true that information is but figured I would share with folks who are considering a new purchase.

I am trying to see if they will allow me to activate the Entune in my FRS still. It did not come with it, but I installed the display audio with NAV and Entune. I hope I get it for free too.

I just called Entune to clarify about the free service. I was told that everything is free but I don't believe it until I see it because the traffic alert is embedded with Entune. On my Avalon; however, half of Entune is the free (the things that you get for free anyway on a cell phone) Navtraffic, fuel prices etc are supported by SiriusXM and still have to be pay for. Kinda funny that on one vehicle it is handled totally through Entune and on the other it is handled partly by SiriusXM. Needless to say the Navtraffic on the 4Runner (handled by Navteq) is way better than the Avalon(XMtraffic).

I got it as well, was kinda glad to hear since I am investing time/modding the Entune headunit.

-On a different note, I received an update last Friday in the mail on a USB stick to 2.2.0 version. Now it will update via bluetooth on my phone, and I have more apps now as well. Anyone else get an update recently?

I see the 'apps' on the headunit for Maps, Bing, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Open Table, Movie Tickets, something called Sports, and Weather. However, all these only work if I tether my phone to the headunit and several only work if the vehicle is stopped (many features of the nav, Sports, movies). I can't access my custom channels on iHeartRadio via the headunit, only radio stations.
Am I doing something wrong while using Entune? I'll admit that I'm not fully fluent with all the options but I feel like it is just a stripped down, heavily restricted delivery system to the info that we have on our phone.

Feel the same way. The nav works fairly well, when you remember to key in your destination info beforehand. Otherwise, it can really be annoying. I know Toyota had safety in mind when they decided to lockout some Entune features while the vehicle is moving, but they really don't make sense. Why have radio controls work, but not Nav? Why can I dial using my phone, but not the Entune control panel? Wish I could override these lockouts.

Interested in the new apps as well. Any info?

Entune was part of the package I bought. I was not sold on its current functionality but had no choice. Later I realized it could be updated. Thats where I remain optimistic. Toyota offer useful apps in the future.

Everything works. I was able to get the subscription working at first but Toyota caught on that I did not purchase the certain vin. Bluetooth and HD Radio still work no problem. NAV is spot on too. I do miss the rerouting with Entune and traffic updates. Plus it is nice to be able to search for spots with the touch of a button.

It was a drop in plug in play for the 2013 FRS to get the Display audio that comes in the 2014 FRS. Literally took me 10 minutes to install.

I am hopping Toyota gets back to me with good news.

I will try and help. You get the usual Pandora , IHeart Radio etc. Embedded in the 4runner Entune system is the traffic alert, gas prices etc. Now with the 4Runner everything is free. In the Avalon for example I am only going to get the free stuff Pandora etc for free. I will have to pay for NAv Traffic, Sirius Travel link etc even the weather.

Took my vehicle check and see if the entune ver 2.2 pertained to my vehicle. The service rep had no idea there at first but check and it was available; however, they didn't have it and had to order it. Thus I have to wait to around the end of the month. They didn't even know what were the changes.

Read something today on Engadget about Toyota dropping the charges for entune completely. Didn't read beyond the headline because my 2010 Limited doesn't have it.... How about a frigging update Toyota!?!?

Yup, you guys are cracking me up! I'm liking this forum.
Again, all the things in Entune (yes, ALL) you can get in your phone. Pandora, iHeartRadio (to include stations other than just 'live' radio), weather, gas prices (gas buddy), traffic, etc. Entune is just a highly restrictive delivery system. I haven't heard about the update, such as new apps, etc. Is anyone able to chime in here?
