Toyota is trying to compete with Ford's Sync and MyFord Touch. Ford found that the take rate on Sync was higher than expected and significantly increased transaction prices. Reviews of MyFord Touch have been mixed at best.

I would have liked to see this on my 4Runner. I really doubt we will be able to update our NAV to have this functionality.

You guys seen this? They are going to be showcasing it at CES.

Toyota Entune

Looks pretty interesting. Granted, my iPhone can do all of this already but I guess it could be useful. Right now I use the iheartradio app with my BT connection to get the same functionality. (Actually, you can listen to just about anything on the iphone. Youtube, pandora, whatever) I'd be interested to see how far they take this. I'm pretty impressed with the technology in my limited so they would really have to make some dramatic technology changes to get me to get a newer 4runner in the same generation. Glad to see Toyota is taking a step in the right direction tho.

Here is some actual usage footage, from CES '11:

Toyota Entune Looks Ready for the Road

I'd rather have a hard-drive with POI's because that one Bing search looked a little slow and like other stated, iPhone + A2DP Bluetooth does the magic. Of course it's good to see Toyota bringing out new tech.

If you really want the touch screen controls available on an in-dash display, you could always go the ipad route: SoundMan Installs iPad in Toyota Tacoma's Dash

I think Entune, in it's current form, is a joke. It's just an embarrassing effort from a gigantic corporation like Toyota. In order:

1. The screen is low res and pixelated. My phone or iPad have much better screens and didn't cost $35K+. Would it have been possible to spend $100 more on a proper screen worthy of a $35K SUV?
2. The apps are *just* ok, not great. And I don't see any evidence that more are being created. Where's Spotify? When are the new apps showing up?
3. It requires the data plan *on my phone* to be useful. My phone has a better screen, much better app selection, and better navigation...why, again, do I need Entune?
4. They expect to charge me $10/mth after 3 years. That.will.never.happen.

So, I purchased a ProClip mount for my iPad and installed it. It has Navigon, Gaia GPS, NOAA weather and every other application I use on a daily basis.

Love my 4Runner. Will be uninstalling the Entune application from my phone and leaving the display on my pixelated Entune display off...permanently.
