Yes, I know how to use the search function.
So, I went to the dealer today and schooled them on the error 5 issue. Even had the service advisor google "error 5" and TSB. I watched as he searched. He eventually found it (search lead here). And BTW, he didn't know of an iPod "issue" with the 4runners.
Anyway. He eventually found the TSB on his Toyota computer files and he showed that it didn't apply to me. 2010 4runner and earlier.
So I'm not sure what is causing the error 5--- iPod stops playing and error 5 displays. I'm thinking it's the iPod. And that it's not interfacing with the truck or vice versa. It plays on my Mazda ok....
Just updated (didn't need to ver. 4.2) and sync'd......
iPod cut out 3 times today. And had to shut iPod off and restart it again. Kinda dangerous while driving.
Any one else with a 2011-2012 4runner having issues with a 2nd gen iPod touch? Like to know how you're dealing with the error 5 issue.

Since it's plays fine in the Mazda, I agree that it has to be an issue with your 4R software.

Haven't played with my iPod yet in my 2011 but will let you know as now I'm curious.

I'm gonna give it a try again tomorrow. See what happens. What a crock..... But I'm gonna bring my iPod nano and see if there's any issues that come up. If not. S'gotta be the iPod touch.......

guess the ipod touch and

factory stereo dont like each other much. tried my new ipod nano today. and not a hitch. no error 3 or 5 or 6.......
So i dont know what the answer is gonna be....i either use the nano exclusively. which i dont want to since its my gym ipod.
Or use BT feature for music. But no text feature, so i wont know which podcast im listening to..............
Anyone else have any ideas....besides going out and buying ANOTHER ipod touch -- newer or newest generation.
I'd like to know what others did to solve this issue if they had it.

My iPod worked in my 2011 4R from day one until one day I took it out to use on a bike ride. Put it back in a few days later and it has never worked -- error 5. Haven't done anything about it beyond turning the car on and off with and without the iPod attached, and rebooting the iPod, etc, etc. The USB icon display immediately on the radio panel after connecting, so the radio "sees" it. Still enjoying satellite radio which I never had before, so the iPod issue is not catastrophic at the moment... I would like it fixed though!!!!!!

iPod touch issue

Hey Brett. Like i said, I went and showed the service advisor the TSB - TSB 0013- 11 and he said,or maybe interpreted it to say it's for 2010 models and earlier......guess I'll make a stink about it again when I go back......

iPod error 5

I started to get the error 5 message on my 2012 4runner sr5 when plugging into
the USB port. I have an iPhone 3GS and had to turn off blue tooth to get the music to Play. No problems now.

Hey this might not be the same thing but I got it to work now no errors. To start till a few days ago I was under believe my iPad 2 would not work thru USB. (obviously erroneous info from friend with sienna same year '11) so glanced at a thread somewhere that it could be used!. So tried it out found I had forgot to press aux twice to switch it to IPod mode. I was like sweet. Ecstatic hell yeah!. Memory a little fuzzy here cause I was in garage at the time puttering drinking a beer. Had wifi signal in garage so figured what the hell I would try pandora and Iheart radio. Can't remember if I had linked it Bluetooth yet....don't think so yet. So any it would play for a minute or so and stop "error 5" I believe it was. If I skipped songs would do it again. Had to switch key of each time to reset by the way. Moving on... Thinking since I don't have 3G model anyway that stuff was no big deal. But my iTunes playlists were a must and going Bluetooth would be better than a cord every time. So I programmed it it and all... Selected it as mp3 audio player and wouilla! It played the tunes. Figured I would try pandora again and low and behold! Full functionality! Skipping tracks, pandora stations everything and no more error 5!!! Everything works and comes through.fine..

So I guess the thing I'd ask those getting the error.... Are using USB or Bluetooth? I don't believe anyone specified. Any way best guess from quick research on web that error5 is not specific error.. I mean that not one identified specific cause like a general error. One guys solution on his iPod touch was updating to version 4.1. Works fine for him now. Most others forums stated it was when using USB hookup.... Sooooo I might suggest using Bluetooth if your not already. That is if your iPod has that... I'm no expert. Lol. Best of luck let me know how it turns out. Or if ya got a question.
