Etune locked up

Hi,

I have the latest firmware for my Etune nav radio.
I was listening to Sirius XM, and the audio knob stopped working. Seemed to be locked up.
Yet audio sounded fine.

Restarted, and issue stopped.
Only happened 1x time in a year.

I searched and found that other folks had this with the 2014 model.
Mine is 2015 SR5.

I have updated my radio 2x by my iPhone.
Is there another update that the dealer does?

When I had a different make car, there are MR and hotfixes.
The MR (major release) are done via the dealer, usually from their laptops.
The hotfixes are done by iPhone or smart phone.

thx

Hi gman,

There are a few things that can cause this but for now, open the hood, remove the lid to the 'Main relay/fusebox'. See a fuse labeled: Rad 20A; that's the fuse to the headunit. It's job is to supply current to that circuit 100% of the time (unlike the Rad 10A intermittent fuse, which goes dead when you shut the vehicle off).

This fuse enables the clock and radio to maintain their memory to preserve the time and radio station presets. Just pull that fuse out and leave it out for a minimum of 4 hrs... I usually pull mine when I know I'm in for the night, thus providing ample time for the capacitors to fully drain. When you put it back in you should notice that the clock is not set and your radio presets are gone. Then try your "Audio button"!

Cheers

How often are updates available? I feel like I've never updated mine since I've purchased it.

I been prompted by the vehicle to do 2 or 3 updates via the app and my phone's data connection. Back in August someone posted about how they received notice of a new update via the dealer. I haven't been in to get it, so hopefully someone who has can chime in.

That's not the current software version for that head unit, I'm starting to think that whatever updates you guys are getting through your cellphone's Entune app it has nothing to do with the actual Entune OS system, perhaps just app updates or it updates the contacts/personal information from your phone onto the headunit everytime you sync/connect to the unit.

A section from T-SB-0160-14:

Some 2014 and 2015 model year applicable vehicles equipped with Entune™ Audio Version
(software version 010185)/ Entune™ Audio Plus (software version 010190 or 010191)/ Entune™
Premium Audio (software version 0101BE or 0101C1) may exhibit one or more of the following
conditions:
 Intermittent radio rebooting
 Bluetooth® inoperative (grey icon)
 Unable to delete certain Bluetooth registered devices
 Stuck on Toyota logo screen for 3 to 4 minutes before booting up
 Touch screen becomes unresponsive on voice recognition screen
 Fuel consumption screen does not update when update button is pressed
 Sudden “Call Ended” during a call
 iPhone 6/6 plus will not charge or play music (non-detection of iPhone 6/6 plus via USB)
 Current time display changes frequently while driving
 HD traffic/weather system update
 Street name orientations corrected

Unfortunately I do not see your "Audio Knob" issue here... What exactly do you mean "Audio Knob," do you mean the volume control or the tune knob?

My best guess based on the information, is that a software update may or may not fix the issue; occasionally we've had to replace units where the knob has started acting weird. But in either case, the first step is going to be a software update followed by a TAS Case and most likely a new headunit if the software update doesn't fix it.

Yea, thinking it was just app updates. When I ran the Etune updates.

The issue was with the volume knob. It got stuck at a certain level.
I turned the car off then on and the issue went away.

It has only happened 1x, so it may be a one-off.
I was adjusting the treble and base and listed to a few stations on Sirius.
Lots of traffic that night.

Regardless, I would like to get the firmware updated.
Is this something that is asked for when I bring it in for its next oil change?
Or let them know ahead of time.

You can ask them if an update for the Entune headunit is available and see if they will update it for you. Usually most dealerships will do it for you no problem, some may say you need to be experiencing an issue before they will do anything. When you drop it off for the oil change is always a good time to mention it since it's in the shop anyways.

Either way, I'd just mention that you were experiencing some issues with the headunit and were wondering if you could have it looked at and/or updated.

As mentioned on another Entune thread, the dealership had to update my headunit via techstream to 0101D1 software back on7/23/15.

I was having the same issues as well as the volume control not controling the volume when it would malfunction.
I actually videod the issues happening and showed them to the service manager, that got them on it without issue!

I have only had 1 reboot issue since that software update.

Hope this helps.
