A couple weeks ago my 07 4Runner had the evil check engine light come on with the follow on brake and control lights popping up. Ran it down to the local mechanic who hooked up his OBDII reader and a P0456 fault was showing. We checked air filter, which was dirty (hmm, thought I had changed it..oops), replaced it and mechanic said that should do it. He reset codes and everything was fine for about 4 weeks. Then same warning lights popped up two days ago. This time codes were P0441 and P0455. Mechanic checked some things and said the gas cap was the culprit. It was an aftermarket cap that came with the car and he showed me that it was not sealing or pressurizing the tank. At least there wasn't any hissing of de-pressurization upon taking cap off after running car for a while. So he is saying the only "fix" we need to make for these codes, due to the defective cap is to simply replace it, so I'll do so tomorrow. Any opinions out there that maybe something else may be wrong or mechanic is simply grasping at the low hanging fruit? I've read on other threads where the P0455 code by itself "MAY" indicate just a problem with the gas cap, but as there was also the P0441 code I'm wondering what other potential things may be wrong….
