Ever notice what you don't notice until you buy a 4Runner?

I never noticed how many 4Runners were on the roads here in Dallas until I bought one and started looking out for them. Now I see them EVERYWHERE. Sneaky bastards.

Totally true. It's actually amazing how many 3rd gens are still so popular.

You mainly see the vehicle you drive more because you pay attention. Being that I have two very popular vehicles (4Runner and Corolla) it doesn't seem any other vehicles exist lol.

That happened when my buddy bought an FJ. Best part was that where I lived in the Bay Area before there wasn't as many 4th gens and it seems like it there were more FJs.

Now I live in Bend and I see tons and tons of 4Runners of all gens. But I haven't seem many others on 35's and as modified as mine.

+1 on the 3rd gens.

i drive a 2014 5th gen, and i hardly see any in the wash DC area...not that this is a hotbed of off-roading. but the 3rd gens, i see 10 -20 a day, easily. they are in all sorts of conditions, from full rust buckets, to exquisitely kept gems.

I wonder if the non-enthusiast owners notice the other 4Runners too. By that I mean, I am surprised by how many stock 3rd gens I see around, and just normal looking people driving them, so...those people!

But yes, after I started lusting after a 3rd gen, I couldn't stop noticing them, ESPECIALLY modded ones. Of course that made every drive in Colorado difficult to keep my eyes on the road. Same thing happened with my Golf R too, but they're a bit rarer around here.

Golf R is just not common anywhere lol.

I have no idea WTF happened, but I see more 3rd gens now than I did 10 years ago... Not even joking. I thought it works the other way around. Did somebody buy all the 3rd gen auto auction inventory in 2005 and just start selling them last year?

On the other hand, all variants of the body on frame Explorers that were in nearly every driveway ten years ago have all disappeared.

Even with my 2015 in the driveway, I still think the 3rd generation is the best looking 4Runner.

I couldn't agree more! I got mine in January and since then I swear I see about 10 a day! When I got mine the dealership had 4 in the lot. By the end of the week they were all sold! Guy who sold me my 4Runner said they can't keep them on the lot! I don't see many as done up as mine out here but there are some nice ones
